I heard your immune system takes a hit with rads.  Has anyone chosen to go get a shingles vaccine shot shortly before starting radiation?  I'm just doing radiation, then Arimidex, and also Zometa IV every 6 mos for bone density/osteoporosis.    I was thinking about getting the shingles vaccine before I started radiation, but then I read a message board where a good percentage of people had bad reactions to the vaccine...almost like getting shingles!...and I don't really want to start out feeling bad right before I start radiation.  My Dr thinks it's a good idea, but I'm not sure.

I think having shingles could be worse.   I had them on my face a couple of years ago...fortunately I recognized what they were & got "the Pills".  They cleared within a week but I have seen some terrible cases.  I intended to have the vaccine before I started rads and then forgot.   Now it is too late but so far I have been lucky.

I hope no one minds the pictures.   I would love to see other grandchildren here too.   My little family live in Thailand, have never met my grandaughter.

Isabelle - The pics are so cute. Beautiful family.

I've never heard about shingles and rads. Could be, but that was not my experience and I haven't seen any comments regarding them.

Mini,Joan, I think the shingles are more of a concern when someone has chemo, because their immune system is compromised.   Rads aren't as hard on us as chemo.   I am only having rad ,7 to go, and Femara.

I almost said that in my post, but I wasn't sure. Chemo difinately changes the mix of SE's.

    Isabelle, beautiful pics

My RO and I just discussed shingles. For those of us that did not have chemo, the stress of this whole ordeal can cause a shingles outbreak. Stress just wrecks havoc on our bodies. With the chemo, you have both the stress and comprised immune system.

Isabelle: Thanks for sharing the photos.  Your grandkids are adorable.  I'm so happy to be done with WBR!  I couldn't wait to get home and remove the alignment marks from my body.

Joan: I hadn't heard about a risk of shingles with radiation.  I didn't have the vaccine, and had no problems with radiation.  Just a tanned breast with slight redness at the end. No pain, no discomfort with a bra, but I did wear a lot of tank tops with built in bras, since they're so comfortable, and it's so hot.

Rads completed on 8/20/12  (11 days post rads)

Isabelle - Nice photos.  I'm still waiting for grandchildren.  Both of my sons got married last Oct. and Dec. (approaching their 1 year anniversaries soon).  I say, anytime now would be OK with me.

TAB55 - Your comment brought back the memory of when I completed all radiation and was able to remove the ugly marks.  I cried tears of happiness when I removed them.  I was so happy to be done!!!!

I've not been here for a few days.  I'm happy to be busy with school but please know I still think of my BC sisters here on July 2012 Radiation.

Removed the tapes today (yeah)  The marks came off with the tape.  Another wonderful, but small, milestone.

Isabelle:  YOur family is beautiful.  Thanks for sharing!

Onvacation, Belinda:  I have 4 this coming week & mon & tues. the weekafter.   I hit both Aug. & Sept. holiday Mondays.  i am amazed at how good I am feeling right now, no fatigue the last few days and deep pink boob but no rash & not too uncomfortable.   I seem to be better rather than worse???

Mini1,  no chemo, I chose not too, but I am on day 68 with femera..(5 yr. sentence) & side effects  have been mostly mental, very emotional...teary etc...but that also seems to be waning.   I think the fatigue was definitely radiation s.e.  & this  week is much better.  If this is as bad as it gets I am home free.  Making peach pies right now.

LoL My sister laughed at me the other day when I asked for a comb. Sad it is coming out ALL WHITE/GREY but happy it is coming back :) I am anxious but afraid again. Sure it is normal for cancer patients. Gonna pray and stay postive.

Finished rad #20 today & oncologist sent me for a chest xray , says the imaging is showing my trachea (on one side) is curving, not lining up with original catscan.   Anyone heard of this?

A little worrisome to me...hear results tomorrow at my treatment I hope.  Really don't want any "cruves" thrown my way at this stage of the game when I am almost finished.

Rads completed on 8/20/12  (Now 15 days PFC)

I'm popping in to see how all of you are doing.  I know several of you will join me PFC soon.  I'm still waiting at the finish line for you.

I have my two week checkup with my RO and MO tomorrow (Tues).  They both wanted to see me two weeks post rads.  I figured I would kill two birds with one stone (and 1/2 sick day).
