Traveling in an RV

Hello Everyone

 I was just wondering if any of you like to travel in an RV. I would love to hear of the places you've been, what kind of RV you have and the people you've met. I thought it would be fun to share our experiences and any funny stories that you might have.

My family and I travel fulltime. Well we did until BC, but plan on getting back on the road when my treatment is over. We workamp across the US, usually close to National Parks.  So far we have worked in South Dakota, Oregon and California. We still have much of the west we want to see and the whole east coast to explore.

Hi,  I see you've got this topic under Humor which seems appropriate. My husband and I sold everything and became gypsies about 10 years ago. It had always been my husband's dream to do this and one day the opportunity presented itself so we bought a 38', class A Winnebago and hit the road. Turned out that neither of us could handle being 'rootless'. So, after 6 months I was back working, we had bought another house and we settled down again. However, we both know that we'll go on the road again some day but we'll always have a house to come back to for off road time. If you've not yet gotten into Washington state, (I was so surprised to be in desert in that state) you should check it out and also head into British Columbia - Pintictin was one of my favorite places. I also loved, loved, loved the Grand Canyon. If you get the chance to go to Alaska - GO. It's so beautiful. That's where we started out from and the road out was in very good shape. Just get there and back out sometime between May and August because by August you could get into snow in the mountains.  We also went to Mount St. Helens and made the awful mistake of driving the rig to the tob. I don't advise doing that - our brakes were smoking coming back down!  J9

About eleven years ago, we started out with a borrowed tent, and have gone to a conversion van, travel trailer, pop-up, class C and then a Roadtrek which we sold when we found a Rialta we really wanted. Since we started, we've been in all states except Hawaii - can't find a way to drive there, as well as almost every Canadian province.  I love it and would be just as happy to take off and be gone indefinatly. It's the best way to see the country. 

We like to see the usual places like the National Parks and historical sights, but have enjoyed the unexpected more. Like seeing a baby black bear in Alaska, a large lizard cross the road in the Florida Keys, geothermal steam vents out west, buffaloe jumps in wyoming and so on. We wish we would have been able to do these things when our kids were still at home, but didn't have the funds.   

A elderly neighbor of ours used to tell us to do what we could while we are still able. Good advise, wish my husband would take it.

J9-Both my DH and I had to move a lot growing up so I think this has played a big part in our wanting to travel. I spent some of my childhood in WA and OR. The Pacific Northwest is one of my favorite places. AK is on our list of places to go someday. We also had a bad brake experience that my DH didn't let us in on until we were almost at the bottom of and 11 mile 10% grade. He couldn't even touch the wheel of the truck.

mrscrj- My parents always wanted to travel more and now that they have the time, my Dads leg won't let him drive much. So we decided that we weren't going to let that happen to us. We have to work our way across, but that allows us to spend our days off enjoying the area we are in. We have got to work and live 3 miles from the entrance to Crater Lake and loved it. Also 4 miles from the Badlands in SD.

I just can't wait to get on the road again!
