Secondary breast cancer in the bones and stomach

Hello, my mother was diagnosed with secondary breast cancer in the bone almost three years ago - 17 years after the original cancer. About a year ago she found out it had spread to her stomach and since then her condition has deteriorated somewhat. She now has a drip to prevent her being sick when eating, finds movement very hard, is understandably very tired and has recently suffered from diarreah which seems difficult to control. Sadly I live abroad and whilst I visit as often as possible can not be there to help out as much as I might like.

She is battling terrifically but has developed a relatively pessimistic attitude of late and it's probably not helped by my father who finds the situation very stressful and has never really had to look after himself in the past, let alone become a primary carer. Nonetheless he does a terrific job within his means.

Anyway, I've read many forums in the past and found them very useful and enlightening. I dont really know much about the disease and I don't know what the oncologist says - he doesn't seem to be a great communicator. So, has anybody heard of a similar path for advanced cancer - coming back so late, spreading to the bones and stomach etc and what might the latest development with the diarreah mean? It might be there is something she can do to help or a new drug to test -any help I can get her or uplifting stories I can pass on would be terrific to try and raise her spirits which is all I can really do for now.

Thanks

J

Very sorry about your Mom.  I had diarreah on chemo and it resolved easily enough with Immodium.  I was diagnosed ibc with bone mets from the start in 6/09.  I do not yet know about reoccurences.

Zometa has been a great drug for me for the last 3 years.   I have scans every 6 months.  Hope they can get this under control with your Mom.

I am very sorry to hear about your mom. I wish I could give you helpful information, but I know nothing. Just wanted to give you some virtual hugs!

Aw your poor mum, i won't be helpful with info, there will be a few ladies on here who will be of great help,  Unfortunately cancer can bring the negitivity out esp at where yr mum is with her cancer, my dad passed eleven years ago with Pancreatic cancer and my step mum tried to look after him, but he was stubourn and boy did they have some barneys. He had a bad fall and went to Hospice and then to a nursing home, she tried to do her best, but  it was too much. he was quite negitive and with her too, felt sorry for her at times. I do hope your mum has a little better time and gets over the diarreah. Take care,  Hugs to you and your mum and Dad.
