Second opinion pathologist needed.
Can anyone recommend a pathologist for a second opinion review in NYC? Or a place with trusted pathologists? Preferably ones who have done independent second opinion reviews and are very moral and honest? Original study was done in Beth Israel in NYC. Therefore, a second opinion review must be done in a different place. We are not saying anything negative about Beth Israel. But we really do suspect a false positive. Thanks!

My treatment was at Sloan in Manhattan. I was told by many doctors that the pathologists are great there. They dont use any random dr. The pathogist that reads your reports and tissue samples is specialized in breast cancer pathology.
Good Luck

DITTO... dipad's remark. I received a wrong diagnosis at a local hospital in New Jersey and had a second oppinion and all my treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering. That was 16 years ago for a seperate cancer. I didn't have the option to go there with my breast cancer diagnosis because of insurance restrictions, but I wish I could have. I'm OK, but have had 2 scares and I'm not as satiisfied as when I was at Sloan. I lost trust because of the previous error. No matter what everyone needs a second oppion. Check twice and treat once. Best of luck.

Sccs...I had my pathology slides sent to Johns Hopkins Breast Center for a 2nd opinion. I think I received a report in 10 days. It cost $200, but my insurance covered it. My Onc's office did the contact with our local pathology lab and got all the paperwork pushed through. Here is their website. http://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/avon_foundation_breast_center/second_opinion.html
By the way, my results were the same. -
Dr. Michael Lagious, Patholgy Professor at Stanford in CA, if famous for this. Many women on this site have gone to him including myself. They are pretty fast and the charge is a little over $600 which your insurance might cover. You do give your credit card up front.

Infobabe, I was just going to post the same name.

Did you use Dr. Lagious? He has some gonzo articles on that web site.

I also had my slides sent to Johns Hopkins. Dx came back the same, but it was a bit of piece of mind and helped in my treatment decisions.

Just to give an update. We sent it to Vanderbilt and it came agreeing with original report
... Thank you people for help.

For anyone else looking for information about getting a second opinion, the section of the main Breastcancer.org site Getting a Second Opinion goes through the Why, When, Where, and What to Expect of second opinions.

We used Dr. Ira Bleiweiss at Mt. Sinai for a second opinion.
