Hair extensions - advice or referral in Florida

I am luckily starting now to focus on my appearance after being so caught up with the stress of active treatment. I miss my long hair and, though I am very glad that my hair is growing in nice and full, I am very self-conscious about my very short hair and feel that it is a constant reminder of everything I wish to forget. I had read a book about some cancer survivors who said that they had gotten hair extensions when their hair was around 2 to 3 inches. My regular Hairdresser has not had experience with post-chemo hair but said she could do extensions when my hair is around 5 inches. I was hoping to get hair extensions much sooner than that. I am not aiming for very long hair. it would just be nice to have something around chin-length. If anyone has any advice or recommendations I would appreciate it. If anyone lives in Florida and has a referral for a stylist that works with post chemo hair regrowth, I would love the referral.
