Respirator....nervous! upcoming surgery
Hi all, new here. my surgery is 9 days. Have COPD/asthma. Surgeon said no way can I have radiation *having BMX*
due to my lungs (and due to RA). I have appt with pre op & anethesiologist today. Last word on being put under is
will wake up on respirator.
have any of you been put on ventolator? I'm so nervous about that.. I've had so many surgeries in my life
and have lots of rotten syndromes/illnesses/disease.. pretty fed up.
Have IDC - looking like TNBC too. so won't know until around end of June
need some support about this lousy copd/asthma ...........right now on antibiotics, lungs been bleeding off/on for a few months, exhasperations off/on lately, now new bad cough. man o man. thanks all

No advice from me, as I have not experienced this. My grandfather was on a respirator for a few days several years ago (I think due to severe pneumonia) and he said afterwards he had no memory of it, as they kept him very sedated at that time. I hope that you are kept just as comfortable and stress-free. I am sorry you are going through all this. You must be a very strong person to go through all that you have gone through. I hope your surgery goes well.

hooray. had appointment with Respirologist yesterday. yes my lungs are crappy, but she's NOT planning on keeping me on ventolater after I wake up. stuff happens of course.. but at least I know it's more likely to NOT be on it afterwards.
am feeling much more positive.

Thanks Angels!! man alive.. I get enough drugs in me to knock out a horse.. finally 2 hrs sleep.
lol. usually its been NOD time... only pain med I can take, so oh well. lol
To add to my post.. and say na-na-na to a few here at home. its WAS NOT due to MY lungs that I ended up on the respirator! whew. there was an issue with what she (anathesiologist) was attempting, and she's the head of the dept.. (oh goodness), long story short.. she put the tubing down to far, and trying to bring it out could only get 1 lung to work. completely freaked my family, as the blue dye (for breast.. right:) made my pallar awful. My Dad thought I looked dead. what an ordeal! lol. glad that parts over.. so now for the little wait. (in meantime.. already ran into probs with drainage & tapes, fever & high white count & some other test that showed infection.. but it seemed to be ok that I was sent home from ICU ..no papers, no physio, no nothing to do with cancer.. zip. fish out of water. thank fully I have this forum, the net & my close girlfriend that is at the recon stage.
peace to you all! &thanks
