Biotech Start-Up Begins Marketing Test For Picking Cancer Drugs.

Forbes (5/31, Herper) reports, "A small Cambridge, Ma., biotechnology company, Foundation Medicine, has begun marketing a test called FoundationOne that aims to help doctors pick the right drugs to treat cancer patients who are running out of options." The article notes that although the new test has been commercially available for months, the company is "just beginning to market it now, ahead of the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology this weekend, when thousands of cancers docs will convene in Chicago." Forbes quotes Foundation Chief Executive Michael Pellini as saying, "We're doing something really important that's advancing the field of cancer genomics that's having an impact on patients."

They sequence for some of the nonbreast cancer genes in addition to known breast cancer genes.   So for example, if you have ALK mutation, you may qualify for xykori too.   That's a good thing.
