Anyone heard of b17 vitamin?

I'm just wondering if anyone has tried or even heard of the b17 vitamin to help treat cancer. My mom received a mysterious book called "a world without cancer: the story of b17" and is convinced it works. The book itself is easy to find on amazon but we don't know who sent it to her. I ordered the pills online because they don't sell them in stores. In the book it says that in Mexico they give it to people through an IV but I'm not going to Mexico. Anyone else read the book or heard of it?

B17 used to be referred to as Laetrile, an alternative cancer treatment that's available in Mexico.  I believe apricot pits was the original source for Laetrile.  Like many other alternative tx's, it may help some people, but it's hardly a miracle cure-all.  Here's what the NCI says about laetrile: http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/pdq/cam/laetrile/HealthProfessional/page1/AllPages/Print

The vitamins are actually for me, I have metastatic breast cancer.
