Lump found, waiting for tests...

I went to see my doctor last thursday because of concerns and changes with my left breast.  My nipple was excruciatingly itchy, then it started burning and felt like little knives were stabing it. My areola was also lighter on the left then on the right.
He examined both breasts and found a lump in the left on that I had not felt myself (I feel it now though).  He gave me some papers, told me to call for a mammo and ultrasound and then make an appointment with a surgeon to be sure of everything.
I've called 3 different clinics that do mammo's, I have an appointment scheduled for the 4th of June.  No one had a closer date available.  Since then, my breast has become sore, all the way to my armpit and arm, it seems that my nipple is now flat (not inverted). Does anyone know of a place where I could have my mammo and ultrasound sooner? In the Montreal area?  I'm only 31 1/2, doctor didn't seem overly concerned but wants the tests to rule everything out. Meanwhile I'm trying to stay calm, with my 4 kids (ages 13-7 months) and my husband, who I know is freaking out on the inside.
Any help and advice is greatly appreciated!
Thank you for taking the time to read this!

Hi Kat -- I saw you on the Canadian thread and came here to read your post!

You will probably get more responses if you re-post your question in the "Not Diagnosed but Worried" forum. There is a bit more traffic on that side (it's not just U.S.).

    Good luck :)

I think this is a private clinic in the Montreal area:

We have them here--they will usually get you in sooner if you pay for the tests, and give them a requisition from your doctor.

Kat -  Sorry for what you're going through. Please try and take it one step at a time, and not think the worst. That said, 11 days seems like a long time to wait for a mammo when you are suffering from worrisome symptoms. Here in Ontario my GP called through and got me an appointment the next day... can you call back your GP and see if he/she can expedite things?

Not sure what is available in other provinces, but in BC we have a program called IB-Rapid where you are 'rushed' through the medical system if your doctor suspects possible breast cancer.   Within the space of 4 weeks I had seen my family doctor, had a mammo then a biopsy (that was with Christmas week inbetween) and diagnosed and sent to the cancer agency.   Was still the longest 4 weeks of my life, but still considerably quicker than normal waiting times (at that time there was a 6 week waiting list for mammo's alone).

Maybe we should all get together (virtually) and get a petition or something going to send to Government to make this kind of program standard.... ????

Sorry Kat (and anyone else waiting) this isn't much comfort to you at this time...but it makes me so angry this isn't a standard procedure in Canada.. or the world - grrr !!
