Survey/Questions for iPad users

Posting here since it has nothing to do with BC.  Actually, for me it does, since I'll use it during my surgery recoveries and beyond.  My family wants to get me an iPad for Mothers Day, but my husband wants to know exactly which one to get.  I can't decide which one, or if I even think it's worth the expense.  Tired of moving the laptop up and down the steps - also dropped it once!  I'm often waiting around during my daughter's dance classes, riding lessons, and activities at her school.  Some of these places have WIFI and some don't; sometimes I do bring my laptop and get the bills paid, etc.  Things that are hard to do on an iPhone.  So...

If you have an iPad, do you like it?

What if anything don't you like about it?

Did you get the one with Wi-Fi only, or the one that also has 4G LTE (cellular).

How did you decide how many GB of memory to get/what do you recommend?  16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB?

If you have a cellular data plan, which one do you have/recommend 

Do you have the 2nd generation or 3rd generation?

I have the New iPad - 64Gb, 4G. Love, love, love it.



Recommend getting the most powerful one you can afford if you plan on having music and movies and tv episodes on it.

I have an iPad II and just love it. DH bought it for me and I thought it was an extravagance I did not need. But I could't live without it now! The battery lasts longer than my laptop, it does not get as warm as my laptop ( a real plus if you are on an AI or tamoxifen and having hot flashes), it is lighter, fits in most of my purses, lights up to read which my kindle does not do, lots of great things to say about it.



I have the basic 16 MB, 3 G version. It has all the memory I need. I live in a fairly rural area so there is not a lot of public wireless available. My son,lives in Orlando and has free wireless almost everywhere he goes so he does not need the 3G facility. I subscribe to the most basic AT&T wireless,service which costs me $15.25 a month. So if I go to an appt or have to wait somewhere I can get on line. I probably would not have enough air time to watch movies but that is not what I do.



The only thing that drives me crazy if that the iPad thinks it knows what I want to say and often substitutes its word for what I meant to write. Took me a while to learn to read what I wrote! Otherwise I sent some weird messages. Also the keyboard is a little too small to use a real touch typing system. I have a wireless key board for serious word processing but donf't use it often.



You'll love an iPad!

LOVE my iPad!!!

In fact, it's replaced my Kindle, because I can sit and scroll thru Pinterest while waiting for Dr's appts.

I got an iPad II, 32Gig, and......um......the kind where you don't need a wireless connection to get on the Internet.

I went with Verizon, because that's who has our cell service, and that we've found to have the best coverage. Started out at $20 a month for 1 gig of data downloads, but now -thanks to a stupid "promotional offer" that expired, it's $30 a month for 2 gig.

Just a word of caution - I learned the hard way: if you HAVE a wireless connection available wherever you are, use it! Or else you may be getting charged extra for downloading more info from your provider.

I'm pretty low tech, so not sure if I got the details right.....

I have an IPad and am still getting used to it. Things look a little different, but I LOVE the way it handles email and moat searches and web sites. It does not do Flash so any sites that use Flash will not show images. I agree about the weight and heat generation! And I agree you should get the best you can afford-I learned this from DH as I tend to be a frugal (stingy?) Scotsman and he has much better success with his computers etc.

My husband got me an iPad after I was diagnosed, primarily to use during my treatments and such.  Per my request, he got the new iPad, 32gb, wifi only.  I got the mid-range memory so I can put videos (movies and tv shows that I have on DVD) on it.  I have a lot of music, but I keep all of that on my iPhone so I don't need space for that on the iPad.  I keep all of my music in the iTunes Cloud (via Match) anyway, so if I want to I can download a song or album, then delete it when I'm done.

The cancer center where I get my treatments has free wifi, and I log on to my wifi network when I'm at home.  It's a little annoying to not have access to the internet constantly, but I really don't need it on the iPad.  I'm around a wifi network often enough, and if I'm not I can use my phone.  The extra expense of 4G is not worth it for my purposes.

I subscribe to the New Yorker magazine, and a bonus is that I have free access to the digital edition, so I always have a magazine to read wherever I go.  If your library has a digital lending program, you can get access to that, as well, if you like to read.  

I've only had mine a short time, but I find myself using it more and more.  My laptop battery isn't the greatest, so when I'm at home I find myself pulling out the iPad after the laptop battery goes.  (If my rabbits are out for playtime, I can't plug in, as they'll chew through the power cord in a matter of seconds!) 

When I'm on wifi, I can watch streaming movies from my Netflix queue, too.

Loving my iPad!!!! Went to NOLA for BMX and DIEP and the night before surgery, went out to a suburban mall and got one. It's been so much fun to have during my recovery. Laptop is too heavy to move around the house. The only thing is that it doesn't seem to old a charge for even a day ...any thoughts why?

I have had every version of the iPad so far, and don't know how I managed without it. I use it constantly, throughout the day....or night, when sleep won't come. It's my constant companion during chemo, even though someone is always with me.



Mine gets about ten hours of use between charges but I still usually have to charge it every night, just because I use it that much!



I have the 64gig 4G model, and between music, movies, games that I play online with friends, etc. I really don't have a lot of room to spare.

I love it too. Initially I got the Ipad 2 back in February of this year and don't you know it, the new version came out about 2 weeks later. Of course I had to have it, so I got the newer version, and gave the other one to my husband (who has no clue how to use it). So it is just collecting dust.

I have the 64GB 4G and service provider is Verizon. My laptop at home died about 6 months ago so I needed the internet service. I simply love it. I do lots of studying on it and love playing words with friends. I am so addicted to that game. Been downloading movies and some music. I also have no clue why I ordered so many GB, but it doesn't hurt to have it.

Do you have the 2nd generation or 3rd generation?   2nd. 3rd wasn't out when I was purchasing.

I have an IPad 2 since last Christmas and I love it. I don't have a data plan because it s too expensive for me, but I really wish I could. I have a wireless printer so I can even print from it. I still use my laptop because some apps are not complete.
