Moderators, I am not understanding why in the past days you have added the two new click boxes to each post. Perhaps the "copy link" might be useful in limited circumstances, but why the "post a reply" box? All it does is take you to the bottom of the page which one normally posts anyway--it makes it appear you can post a reply to that one post, but that's not the way it works. Seems a waste of screen space and a distraction. Why have these been added?

I understand you might be trying something new to "spruce up" the site, but I don't think this is it.

Glad to hear. I have been wondering as well why these boxes are in now. Hope you will let us know. In the meantime, while I am here, I still have my issue of always having NEW displayed in my favorites list on Older Ladies. Doesn't matter if it was me who posted or someone else. The box stays active at NEW at all times. I've coped with it for at least a yr. now, but I like to see what is REALLY new at a glance.

Apologies on the delay!!! The "copy link for this post" was meant so you can click the button to copy a link to each specific post. Doesn't seem to make sense to most, so we'll edit. What do you think about "quote this post"? Also, we will have the "post your reply" button removed from each post. We're getting it taken care of!

Moderators, I'm wondering why these types of changes are not vetted with testers before you implement? We've had this in the past years with changes BCO tried to make and I thought at that time that you had a testing group. It would seem that you should ask before if something is needed and then test, review, and test again before just adding. Thank you for hearing us and changing back. Website development must be costly so why do we see changes no one seems to have wanted or seem functional?

Much discussion and testing has taken place behind the scenes as we try to implement wish list items that we have received from members and agreed upon their usefulness. We apologize this rendering did not land as well as we had expected, and we will plan to rigorously test and unanimously agree upon final results before rolling out a new feature. We appreciate your insight and thank you for sharing your feedback.

Moderators, thanks for the promises for future rollouts of changes. I remember a similar promise a couple of years ago with another poorly designed change had to revert back to the original. I volunteered to review potential changes then, and I think I received one email around that time but haven't been asked to review since. I'm curious who you are using as testers/reviewers and how many people are involved? Are you contacting regular users of the site before changes suddenly appear or waiting to see how we react? Seems like your marketing research process needs review!

Melissa, we are rolling out a new feature and it is optional. We are working on an announcement to address the change, but you can opt out of this option by going to your Profile and under Recommedations for You, choosing Turn Off.

Moderators, does BCO not learn from prior experience what we users are needing and looking for? The intrusion of your unhelpful "Recommended for me" stuff is another example of how you are not listening. You must think we're dumb and can't figure out for ourselves what we need. We still have to put up with the "Post a reply" and "copy link" on each post that have not yet been removed, and now, you add a totally unnecessary "guide?" Why would you think I want to spend my time going to my profile to "opt out" of something I didn't want or certainly need in the first place!!!!!!!!!!! It needs to be removed not by my changing my profile. It's past time to drop the additions to the posts and ask before you implement any further changes!!!! Maybe start a thread asking us if we want a particular change by showing us examples and we can give you our feedback before you implement a total forum change nobody wants.

We know this new function will be an extremely helpful feature for many here, but if you do not feel you would benefit from this, you may click Turn Off in the Recommended for You area under My Profile. You know what those recommendations will do? Have new members posting on eight year old dead inactive threads for their first post, necessitating someone else telling them they should start their own new one. The recommendations I got were for eight year old threads with one or two posts all those many years ago on topics irrelevant to me

Moderators, I agree with Melissa and know newcomers will not benefit from your suggestions. From what I see on my account, I would never choose the topics BCO is recommending for me!!!!!!! I feel like you feel we're stupid and don't know how to think for ourselves. I no more want BCO to second guess my "relevant" topics than I want Google to develop their profiles and display links from what I search!! Please, in providing a service for BC participants, do not become "big brother." Again, I don't know why you require me to take action on something you added without my permission. Most companies are not allowed to opt someone into something without their permission. Why should BCO be allowed? Just stop and remove that intrusive part of Active Topics now!

Old saying...."if it ain't broke, don't fix it". What we have is wonderful--no need to do anything because it seems when something new is added it doesn't work for this site. Totally doesn't work even though there are the best of intentions.

Adding my voice - we DO NOT NEED recommendations - whatever they are based on. NO-NO-NO. The above comments are correct. Those of us who take our valuable time to read the active threads and try to provide assistance to new users, are definitely against this. You know, the discussion boards are kept vital & alive by just these people - those who are trying to "pay it forward". Don't clutter up the program. I venture to guess many of us will drop out trying to answer worried newbies if you let this go forward.

This recommendation feature is awful. It's in the middle of the Active Topics. Even Amazon places their recommendations in a less obtrusive place. I don't see it when logged on because I disabled all recommendations long ago. When I logged out, 2 of the 3 recommended threads are already on page 1. Not useful at all.

I recommend you remove it permanently.

Instead, please spend time improving your search feature. That would be much more useful.

I just checked the recommended for you and boy are they waaaay off base. Not one of the three pertains to me. More time and money wasted on so called improvements. Editing to add that one topic’s last activity was 2014 about babies and immunizations (I’m 69); why would I be interested in why did you have a lumpectomy then mastectomy when that doesn’t pertain to me as I had a BMX from the get go and that topic was last active in 2015; and you were grasping at straws on the false negative sentinel node biopsy last active in 2018. It’s like someone is throwing a dart at a board of topics you think I would be interested in reading. This ranks right up there with your I’ll themed fundraiser a few Octobers ago.

Moderators, you don't seem to be listening to what any of us are trying to tell you and insist on pushing forward with something that "will take a little bit of time for the system to learn." I don't care what it learns or how long it takes, WE DON'T WANT IT. It's intrusive, unnecessary, and not helpful in any way. I totally agree with MinusTwo, I scan the active pages for newbies and try to answer if I feel I have some information or encouragement to provide them. The vague link recommendation being provided by BCO lead them to the top of the thread that might be 1000s of posts long. What possible good would that be to anyone??? What possible benefits would BCO gain by discouraging long time members by continuing to push and pay for changes in the website no one wants? It certainly discourages me from thinking of donating. Please listen and drop these changes.

I do thank you for listening and removing the intrusive Copy and Link buttons on each post. Each thread is less crowded and reads so much easier.

Am I correct in thinking that when you talk about the system learning, you mean for it to track a user long enough to build up a profile on them in order to recommend more relevant threads?

Yes, ShetlandPony, that is exactly correct. Along with the information users share in their Profile, the tracking will allow the system to begin to offer information and threads the user could find helpful. This could be especially useful for new members, unsure where to begin. We recognize that for those members who have been active in the community for a longer period of time, this feature may be less helpful. We encourage those users who do not find it useful, to disable it in their profiles.
