Hi,

My mom was just diagnosed with lymphedema and I am looking for some answers. Her tumor was in her left breast and she had both breasts removed almost two years ago, however the only lymph nodes removed were on the left side. Now she has lymphedema on the right side under her arm and in the chest area. I didn't think that was possible, but I guess it is.

She has been going for some manual drainage techniques, but that doesn't seem to be working. Now her therapist said wrapping is next. Is that standard? What can I suggest to help her? (I don't live in the same city)

bludevil, So sorry to hear your mom is now having to deal with LE. I'm not the expert here, but I can confirm that wrapping is standard care when swelling needs to be reduced.  I know that some of our wonderful, very knowledgeable LE friends will come by this thread soon and help you with more specific ideas to pass along to your mom.  You cannot imagine how many women got LE when told it wasn't likely or sometimes, told it wasn't possible, so your mom has lots of company. I too was told it wouldn't happen, sigh.

Lucky mom to have a daughter who stepped right into the ring to fight alongside her!
