Worried about losing breast/cervical medicaid

Hi, I need some advise or answers.  I lost my job and my oncologist office helped me to get on the breast cervical cancer medicaid program.  I just started with it because I am currently being treated with aromasin and have completed 3 of the 5 years.  I was told that I could qualify because I am on unemployment and of course earn less than 27K per year.  Also because I am currently being treated for the breast cancer I was able to get the breast/cervical cancer medicaid.

I am 57 years old and this is probably why I can not get a job, unfortunately.  Anyway, assuming the worst, what happens when I complete the remaining two years of the aromasin and then is there any other treatment that you can go on to continue to be eligible for the medicaid coverage?

Would appreciate your thoughts,  Thanks,

I think you'll have to consult with your state Medicaid office. They make up their own rules in how to spend the $$$ given to them by the Feds.

    hi dood,

Medicaid is an income based federal program, even though different states have different guidelines.  If you are still unemployed in 2 years, I would think you would still have coverage as long as you fall into the income guidelines.  Some states have other insurance coverage available as well if you fall just above the income for medicaid, so if you get a job, I would check into that.

Thanks for the advise, is there by chance a drug that you can take after completing the 5 years of arimedex or aromasin?  Have you heard of anything?  I guess I should ask my oncologist, I will be seeing him in July.

There are numerous protocols. Your oncologist can and should help you understand what direction you might take if you progress on this one.

dood ~ If you lose your coverage with the Breast/Cervical Cancer program, you may still qualify for regular Medicaid.

As far as going on other anti-hormonals, I believe some people who are strongly ER+ sometimes do more than one???  I'm not at all sure about that.  Talking to your onc will be your best bet.
