I am new to this site and see that tumor grade is either 1,2, or 3.  I was told that my grade was 6 out of 9 and that is considered intermediate.  Can someone please explan?

Here's a link that explains the Bloom & Richardson scale, which it sounds like your pathologist is using:  http://www.imaginis.com/breast-cancer-diagnosis/histologic-grades-of-breast-cancer-helping-determine-a-patient-s-outcome-2  The basically look at 3 features of your tumor cells -- tubule formation, nuclear pleomorphism, and mitosis count.  They assign a number to each of those, then add those numbers together to figure out how aggressive the bc is.

A score of 6 would equate to a Grade 2 (intermediate) bc.  Grade 1 is the least aggressive; Grade 3 the most.

There's probably also some good information about grading here on BCO.  Click on the very top bar above -- Symptoms & Diagnosis -- then use the search box on that page to look for "grades" or "grading."

Hope this helps, and welcome to BCO (although I wish you didn't have to be here)!  Deanna
