Catastrophic Health Insurance & the Health Care Bill

Options

OK,

i have a catastrophic plan.  I pay $163 a month and have a $5,000 deductible, which I have hit for the past three years like a champ.  I just found out that these types of plans will be going away under the new health care bill.  Does anyone know when that will take effect?

With so much misinformation out there, what is your source that says catastrophic coverage plans will end. I think it's impossible at this point to be sure of anything, especially since the supreme court may take some action as well.

I am with Chickadee... I would like to know where you heard this.  I have been paying attention to the new bill and its fate fairly closely (I thought) and I never heard this.  Lots of misinformation.

I agree there's a lot of misinformation about there and yes, everything's pending onhe Supreme Court action. That said, someone recently posted (last few months) a link to a Kaiser Website that showed the timeframe of the different phases of the 2010 Health Care bill. Personally, I found the website confusing, but there was a lot of information there. I know that 2014 is a big date.  I agree with the other suggestion; go back to the source that said the plans were going away and ask for more info and/or their sources.

I believe 2014 is when "pre-existing" will no longer be an issue and we can shop around for a better insurance.  This is what the nurse navigator from my insurance company told me.  I think it's kind of a bad thing when someone from your own insurance co. tells you this as if it's a good thing for you.  lol  Yes, there are some serious "oversights" in my insurance policy.  And, no, I haven't heard anything about the loss of catastrophic coverage, but so much does seem up in the air.

I have been writing to my reps in Washington for months about what is going to happen if we get a Republican president and they insist on dumping the Affordable Healthcare Act.  They keep telling me they want to "Repeal and Replace" but it seems they have not come up with "what" they will replace it with.  We are really messed up in the US with our healthcare insurance problems.  I was counting on 2014 for the "pre-existing" to no longer be an issue but I can't get proof what is really going to happen if the other party takes over.  I do hope those of you who can will write to your senators who are Republicans and try to get them to tell you "what" they will "replace" the Affordable Healthcare Act with if we vote for a Republican president.  Thanks!
