I am 44, had a hysterectomy but left one ovary three years ago. I was dx with calcifications on oth breasts 6months ago. At 6 month follow up they detected change in left breast . Needle Biopsy & marker was done, dx with ADH, MRI was done . Right breast also has calcifications but biopsy was not suggested after MRI. Meet with one breast surgeon last week. It was not a good fit. She shook her head in disbelief & disgust when I commented that I was ok with a bilateral mastectomy if necessary as I didn't want to be a 'ticking time bomb' so to say. I sought out a new doc & met with her yesterday.she was wonderful , informative, compassionate & caring & a thorough exam. Her suggestion was to watch right side & retest in 6 months. She suggested the wired excissional removal on left side. She suggested tamoxifen or removal of one remaining ovary to reduce the estrogen. I would rather remove the ovary & watch & retest in 6 months then be put on tamoxifen at this point. I feel I am taking this a little slower than my first thought which was just cut them both off so I don't have to worry for years & have a perky new pair for reconstruction. one thing at a time. However, I am considering the ovary removal at the same time of the wired lumpectomy. Wondering if I should do one after the other to make sure it is just ADH. I suppose if it is something more I would want the ovary out even more so. Any advice would be great. I am also contacting the BS & my OBGYN for advice . I hope insurance will cover the ovary removal if I choose this. This is all so hard emotionally to navigate the system & choices. Fortunately, I do still have choices at this point compared to some of you dear women & some of my friends . It is all overwhelming but I am feeling a lot better with this new surgeon and the more I am learning. I am also adopted and no known medical history. Thank you !

Hi Sehooke, I see no one has responded so I wanted to first say hi, and so sorry you have to be here with us.  I had a hyster when I was 43 due to two large uteran cysts that popped up out of nowhere and had me bleeding out all of the time. I took provera to stop the bleeding for 7 days so we could have a nice vacay to Hawaii that had been on the books forever, then decided the bleeding had to stop for my own mental well being. I had to roll the dice on the ovaries -  I have both BC and ovarian in my family. I decided to keep the ovaries to avoid having to take estrogen along with early onset menopause.  It's really a crap shoot, to say the least. I've had lots of breast issues, and a few ovarian cysts, so I wasn't sure what to do. Well I kept my ovaries and I guess time will tell whether i made a bad mistake. I am of the opinion now that we should remove all things that do us no good anymore and can kill us. I wish I could have the ovaries out after menopuase is well underway.  I am not sure if this helped you at all, but wanted to share my story and say hi.  Hugs to you!
