Hi everyone, I was just diagnosed with IDC last week. My mother-in-law is pushing mangosteen juice on my like its crack cocaine. Has anyone taken this? If you have, did you check with your onco doc about it first? I have not yet met with mine and I'd like to start drinking it, if I can at least know it won't cause any harm. I have read that it can interfere with chemo so I wouldn't plan to drink the juice during that part of my treatment. If anyone has any experience or knowledge, that would be terrific!! Thanks for helping a newbie!

At one time I was taking a multi vitamin drink called Vemma which had mangosteen as one of the ingredients.  It was a quality product but I stopped taking it because it was very expensive and the shipping was expensive as well.  I found a similar product at Sams that I began using.  I did not ask my MO about taking mangosteen.  Try doing a google search and see what you find.

I'd like to hear more from those who have tried it. It's prohibitively expensive at Whole Foods, so I haven't bought the juice there, but I did find a small can of a Mangosteen juice drink from Thailand that I gave my son. He has eczema, and Mangosteen juice seemed to help the swellign and redness go away for 24 hours. I'd be willing to give it a try again with his eczema, as it's supposedly has healing properties for the skin.

buffy1:  My girlfriend takes Vemma and she has CLL a form of lukemia.  She has been able to forego any kind of treatment because her blood levels have remained steady.  She gives a lot of credit to the Vemma for this.  I was skeptical, but now hearing your story, it makes more sense.  I was taking it at one time but stopped.  Think I will start again.

The active agent in mangosteen is xanthones. Xanthones is found predominantly in the rind and seed, which are inedible.. it is unlikely the fruit juice contains the rind and/or the seed extract. I think you might find a supplement with xanthone extract more suitable for your purposes but this is only my humble opinion.

I live in Asia and we get mangosteens fresh when they are in season. The pearly white fruit is very sweet and delicious but I'm doubtful if the fruit gives me any benefit more than the typical fruit.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks, everyone. One thing that I wonder about is my mother-in-law has purchased cases of the expensive mangosteen juice, and because it's a proprietary blend that includes apple, blueberry, raspberry juices, etc., there's no way of knowing how much mangosteen (or even how much of the rind and seed) are in it. Hmmm...

Declark, I'll definitely go look at your thread. Thank you!
