Worried sick about my hypercalcimia

Options

Hey  all,

It's  been a  while since I posted to  the board.  That's  because all is well, so  I  had thought.   I  found out last week  that my  blood calcium  levels were outside  the  normal range   of 10.2. I was 10.7.   Just two months  ago  I was  well  within  the  normal range. 9.4  Is  this  how  it usually  goes  when blood tests  start  to go  abnormal  from BC?    All  my  other results  were  normal.   Must add  that  I  have  been taking 6000mg  of  D3.

My  question is,  is  this how bone mets start to rear  their  ugly  head?  Anyone  else  here  with  similar past?

I  will find  out  results  later  today, maybe.

    Anne,

I think this is turning out to be a discussion I'm not going to handle well, though I do thank you for spending the time to give me your support.

Peppopat I am not sure what your lab results mean but I am hoping its nothing to worry about. Please let us know what your doctor says. I will keep you in my prayers today

I have in my hand all my lab results and according to Umass Med Ctr in MA, calcium ranges from 8.7 to 10.7 are considered normal. My SIL is a supervisor in the lab and I will see what she has to say!

EDITED to add.............how high is your Vit D level? Seems like you are taking a ton of the stuff and too much Vit D can elevate your calcium levels. I just googled it.

Let us know! Thinking of you, Sue

    Sue,

Boy  that  would  be  great, 10.2 is  actually  the  high side  of normal. The end  of Jan. I  was 9.4  so  naturally  I  am  stressed.

My  level  was  10.7 last  week.   You  do make  the point  that loading up  on  D3  would affect  the  levels  but  i've  been  loading  up on  D3  (5000 mg per  day) for  over  a  year  so  why  now  the  problem??

Peppopat, I have no idea why your calcium would go up like that. Did you have the blood drawn at the same place both times? Per my lab they have 10.7 as being in the normal range. What was your Vit D level? Per MY lab the normal is 30-100 and mine is 33. I take 1000 iu/day as that is what my onc told me to do. I also get out in the sun all summer and get my Vit D that way.

Isn't it just fabulous worrying? I don't think you should worry too much but of course that is easy for me to say. Last summer I turned into a nutball as I was frantic when I put my house on the market, had it sold, bought a condo and then the financing on the house fell thru. If ONE more person told me to CALM DOWN..........I was going to smack them. When someone is having a "summer of panic" , as I like to call it, CALM DOWN is a dumb thing to say. Just my opinion.

Please let me know what your doc says. Maybe all the Vit D has a cumulative effect. Who knows.

I  got  my  results  back  just  a  few minutes  ago.

Everything  is  OK and  in   the  normal  range.   My calcium is  back at 9.7---well  inside  the  normal  range  again. It  was done at a difference lab,  though.   I've  taken  away from  this  scare that  I really have  to  be more careful on  overdoing it  with D3 and  HCTZ abuse.

Thanks  to all  that  cared  enough to weigh-in.  God  bless  Sue, Janie, Anne and  the rest  of you. Farewell  for  now.

Adding my two cents I have my blood drawn alot and the calcium varies alot.  From what I read it can vary within the same day.   Lots of things go into your calcium levels: the PTH,  whether you spill into the urine alot and lots of other things.

    greetings,,KatsOK,

Thanks  for  your input.  You  are  absolutely  correct.  ON  a Friday  I  was  at  10.7  and  the following  Tuesday  I  came  in  at 9.4.  PTH  was  also  tested  and resulted  in  the middle  of  normal  range.   Just  to  be  on  the  safe  side  I  stopped  taking  large amounts of  D3,  HCTZ, progesterone cream, and calcium  supplements.   I  will take  the test again this coming  Weds to see  if   I  am still  within  the  normal  parameters.   If I'm not, I will be  in  world of  hurt.
