i think a breast mri might show chest wall and ribs.  but, i am not sure.  mostly focused on breast tissue and lymph nodes.  depends on the field of the study.

Everything I have researched indicates mainly just breast and lymph nodes as well...my BS did one just to make sure that the tumor seen on the mammo/and u/s was all we were looking for.  Something about the way the dye flows/doesn't flow through normal tissues and tumors (I am not a scientist for a reason!)

My MRI didn't indicate any node involvement but they aren't really totally reliable for that either, as I had a SNB and had 1/4 nodes involved - bah!  But it gives you a clearer look at what you are dealing with. After MRI, I had a PET/CT (whole body) a head CT, and a MUGA before chemo.  Talk about "scanxiety"....

Thanks for your responses. I am scheduled to have a breast MRI this year (dense breast) and have been having quite a bit of pain thru my shoulder blades as well as a cough which I really think is a side effect of Femara. I just want to be as prepared... as one can ever be....if it is possible for the MRI to show mets. I didn't have the body scans, Karri. I can only imagine the scanxiety you experienced. Hope all is going ok with your treatment now! October
