Many, UTIs are not uncommon when someone is taking the anti-hormonal meds we take after tx.  Is she on one of those? Also, since her immune system is probably still not as strong as it was, it's not surprising that this would happen - both getting the infection and having it hang on for so long.

I hope she's feeling better soon.

    Hi Many,

Leah's correct -- UTI's can be a side effect of some breast cancer treatments. You can read up on causes and tips to help your wife manage this side effect on the main Breastcancer.org site, on the Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) side effect page.

    Hope this helps!

many - I had a UTI during chemo and one after.  Lowered White counts and irritated soft tissue combine to bring them on - I think it is fairly common.  It is important to have a sample of the urine cultured so the correct antibiotic is being used.  Otherwise, the UTI will not go away  - it may subside a bit, but not go away completely.  The one I had after treatment was only treatable by a very narrow class of drugs, half of which I was allergic to.  Good luck!
