PET scan

Options

Just wondering if anybody had a PET scan and what it found in relation to their breast cancer? My MO had me take one today to aid in her diagnosis. It's scary to b radioactive!

Facing surgery to take the rest of my lymph nodes on Monday after my UM and SNB showed just one node with just a few c cells in it. Prob going to have chemo anyway. Any info anybody?

Hi Mimi; I had a PET for treatment planning, once it was clear that a node was involved.  In my case, that was the only "light up" and I was much relieved.  In my case, my doctor was looking for mets, as it was clear from the node involvement (2cm, loaded with cancer) that the cells were on the move.

    Best wishes,

    Cathy

I had a PET too. Mine didn't show any mets but it did have a couple other things come up (possible gallbladder issue and then some uptake in an ovary that was felt to be physiological/normal activity). Just FYI not to freak out if there are other things on your report!

HI, I'm sorry you are worried.  I had a PET/CT combo -  As to the radioactive piece, just drink lots of water to flush everything from your system. I'm sure they told you that at the radiologists, but just a reminder. It really helps your liver process everything.

    Good luck with your results

I had a PET/cat scan after many other tests.

It showed ? mets to the shoulder,?nodes (not palpable),? to chest wall,? sternum.

I then had a cat scan guided biopsy to the shoulder that confirmed stage IV.

No chemo, rads,or surgery;considered treatable, not curable. I'm on letrozole daily and monthly zometa infusion.

    Good luck with your results.

Thank you everyone for your replies. My dr gave me the option of not getting an axial node biopsy based on the Z-11 clinical trial, the mini amounts of cancer cells (less than 200) in the node they took out, a normal PET scan and several other dr opinions. My MO thought that the surgery would probably be unnecessary. I hated my SNB and mastectomy surgery, so I agreed.

Idk if I did the right thing not to remove all of my axial nodes. I start chemo on Monday. We can always take them out I guess.
