Chrissy - fantastic! I'll get first lesson off to you as soon as I can get it typed
If anyone else want to tat let me know. -
Thanks for staring this thread! I need a break from nasty BC.
I do knit, crochet and tat.
I havetaggedd two bonnets and booties for my Grands. I have also tatted book marks and Christmas ornaments. I will post pictures later. I am away from home
Right now. -
Betty would love to see some of your tatting work! I have aways wanted to learn how to tat but never found anyone who did it until now. Kick has kindly offered to teach me over the net and I am stoked! I can't wait to get proficient at it!!!

Hello, ladies!
My operation ( they removed left TE) did go well, but I have drain, so I cannot knit...
such a torture...hopefully they remove it this week..Moon, a question for you...I ordered 2 SILKY ALPACA LACE, 70% baby alpaca, 30%silk it says 50g, 460 yards, 8 1/2 stch on size US 2.I am confused now- it is soooo thin...Should I take 2 thread instead of 1? Then , will it be ehough for the shawl? I never did shawls, and never did anything so thin...Somehow , shawls usually are knitted on size 4, not 2...

-
SOCAL LISA, it is such a great idea! Problem is I am not kroschetting...have no idea how to join it together...
-
where is everyone? I found my self Ravelry... what am I doing now- thinking what to order next... I am checking the names of my yarn or what I want to order and see people's comments! It works!
I almost ordered sotton yesterday, people told it was very hard to knit...I am finishing my kid- mohair ajour apple green pullover, cannot wait to show it! may be for me, may be for my daughter -in-law...
next will be shawl...
-
Chrissy, I want to tat too! lessons, please... Betty, show us some of your work! Momine, are you knitting now? It is funny, because I am from Baltic states, I still want to knit wool sweaters and order alot of it... But I live in NC, and it is very hot and humid there... I always forget that part...
-
Olga, Kicks is the teacher of tatting.....lol.......and so far I have learned how to do the knot and make a circle without booboos......lol. I have been practising of and on all day......lol. I'm sure she will pass on the instructions to you as well.
I no longer have to buy my wool as I have been given so much that I probably will never get through it all!
-
Chrissy... it is never enough wooll... LOL

I am a newbie. My co-worker taught me how to knit in May of last year. I have made and gifted many scarves during that time, and recently I wanted to move on. I just completed a beginner baby cardigan, and was impressed with how it turned out. I am slow at it, but I love knitting. I wish I could do more, BUT reading those patterns can be a bit much.
I would love to learn how to knit socks, but I cannot knit on DPNs. Glad I found this thread.
-
Knitting has saved my life; knitting and blogging. Are you a member of ravelry.com? It is free and so worthwhile to hook up with other knitters. There are several breast cancer groups on ravelry. I am NancyArtCrafts on ravelry, so "friend" me!
I am going to the oncologist tomorrow ...worried, of course. Had Stage IIC diagnosis in 2003, bi-lateral mastectomy, etc. etc. etc. Sigh. What will be...?
-
Glad I found this thread!!! I know I will need to diversion once my chemo starts in April/May. Not quite ready to start a project. Still recovering from my 3/14/2012 UMX. Had a setback this past weekend and had emergency surgery to fix something that happened when I was coughing too hard/too much from allergies/bronchitus. I'm on the mend and that it is what matters the most.
-
Nancy, welcome!
Really Ravelry has these groups? Go there right now! I am so happy about this thread! Knitting helped me alot through chemo I learned how to knit socks while beeing on chemo...Now Shawls will be my adventure..
Shorbr and Melrosemelrose, welcome!
Shorbr, what is it DPN? do you have a picture of baby cardi? -
I've been off the boards for a while...only 4 more rads to go, but I've really been tired and my skin has started to break down a bit, itchy and painful. So I haven't been on much. But here I am

Olga, yeah, that's a pretty standard laceweight...it's the weight I use most when I knit...about 450yds to 50g. Knit a swatch with it single and then doubled and see which you like
I use it doubled when I want a weight close to fingering. But for delicate and beautiful lace that will blow people's minds, try it single. You'll be surprised how fast you get used to knitting with the skinny yarn. One tip, make sure you use needles with nice, sharp, tapering tips. I like the Knitpicks Options line, but there are lots of needles out there that a especially designed for lace.
-
Thank you, Moonlight! I am getting addicted to RAVElRY, on Ravelry I am- VILTIS, in Lithuanian it means hope.
I did not know , they were needles for the lace... thank you! I almost finished my green soft kid mohair ajour sweater. How to put it on RAV? the design was from German magazine REBECCA, I can put original picture, but I, probably cannot put pattern on...I tried to type Rebecca there, to see if it is there, instead od magazine I got 1000 pretty ladies with this pretty name!

-
Hi Olga! Glad you found Ravelry. I found your pictures of an earlier post so funny. My kids always say...you got more yarn?! Is there such a thing as too much yarn!
I have a lovey shawlette I made out of buffalo yarn. I made it after my BMX (actually cast on as I was waiting to go into the preop room on the stretcher! My counts are so off because of the narcotics but it has a special place in my heart....Its really wonky but I'll keep it!
-
Hi, Joanne! I am happy you are here with us! Knitting really helps a lot.... I want to see shawlette. Never heard of buffalo yarn. Is it good?
-
Moonlight, I just downloded My Little Valentine from Ravelry, it is not big... I have 1 skein of INCA ALPACA ...it is OK, but not of my favorite...pretty big yardage, so I probably do double... The beautiful Aelian, which you sent me , will be next, on beautiful vanilla Alpaca lace...

and how do you strech it afterwards?

Buffalo is lovely. I like to use different fibers- camel, buffalo, opossum (from Austrialia), yak, etc..
-
Dons mean double pointed needles. I can take a picture using cell phone or iPad, but have no idea how to post here. I really would like you ladies to see it.
-
shorbr to post a pic here................if you have posted to Face Book it's just a matter of copy/paste if you don't do FB then you need and on line album either in Picasa or Photobucket just down load the program to your computer. These are free to use and virtually self explanatory to put your photos on. Once your photos are there, again the easy was is to copy/paste to here.
If you have any hassles let me know and I'll see if I can walk you through the process.
Hope this helps.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

It is summer in NC, every day 80F, and the last thing I want to do is to finish my green mohair sweater and try it on! But I will do it!!!!
-
Ok, I will try it tonight. Hopefully it will work. Thanks so much

-
olga34, it hit 90 today here near Charleston today. Tied a record. I can't wait to head to the WNC mountains. I'm hoping I can go during my "good" days of my treatments... I had 11 good days this cycle...my first on CMF....I have my second one tomorrow and hope to be able to get out of here April 22nd and head that way for a few days before my next treatment begins May 1st.
I have never done any major knitting, but this past year I've been knitting stocking caps as a mission project at our church. The SC Baptists last year provided 8000 seaman's caps to the International Seamen coming into the SC ports on container ships. Some of us knit, some of us crochet... Our ladies group furnished 206 last year, and we have more ladies participating this year. I enjoy doing this when I'm watching TV in the winter, but not much fun in the summer months!
-
I am so glad I found this thread!
Knitting is getting me through this, and I haven't even started yet--I have my surgery (lumpectomy and SNB) tomorrow.
Please tell me, if I don't have to have the axillary node dissection, only the sentinal nodes removed, how soon will I be able to knit afterwards?
Will I be able to knit during chemo, or will I just be too tired?
I'm so glad to find other knitters that may understand how important these questions are!! :-)

anndh-
Kinda depends if dr gives you any restrictions. Probably good to go within a week tho, I was back at knitting a within a week of TE placement for recon with drains still in place. You probably will enjoy knitting during chemo, unless they give you a pre-med cocktail that knocks you out to enjoy a nap. That was my experience, but between rounds it helped me keep busy working on something for other people. I made so many dish cloths and scarves last year!
My confession, I may be a yarn addict. Is that bad?!
Best wishes! -
I decided to check in here because someone told me knitting helps relieve stress. Does it? I have never in my life knitted a stitch. Where to you go to learn? My mom knew how but she passed away in 2009 and unfortunately my sister, who doesn't knit either, and I gave away her knitting supplies.
The pictures some of you posted were amazing.
-
jwilco, if you live in a city you can find yarn/knitting shops that often have classes to learn. I bought a kit at walmart last year and learned from the written directions/diagrams. There are also lots of how-to videos on YouTube if you want to go that route.
Stress reliever? Yes, if you start with something simple and get proficient before trying something big and complicated. I've gotten pretty good at scarves and dish cloths which can be as simple or complex as you want them to be.
Have fun and best wishes. -
Thank you! I think I might just give it a try.
-
Go for it!
