LCIS is the following:



1. A marker for an increased chance of invasive lobular cancer, dcis, idc.

2. An in situ lobular cancer that will become invasive.

3. Abnormal cells that signal nothing and go nowhere and will never cause a problem.



If monitoring is chosen, rather than a mastectomy, you will be monitored every three months, because everybody concerned wants to catch the in situ lobular cancer that invades early, or the dcis or idc that the lcis marker promised.



If a woman is monitored over her lifetime, and never has the lcis that becomes invasive, or never has the lcis that suggested a dcis or idc is coming, she did not lose her breast and won the gamble. It may bear out in a decade or so that the current recommendations for monitoring are drastic and overkill because lcis is no biggie after all. That's not the case today.



For the woman more risk adverse woman, a PBLM makes sense and she should be able to opt out of the monitoring that is recommended and so necessary to catch invasive cancer early.



The monitoring is serious business for a serious problem. Mastectomy is a serious solution to a serious problem. The choices are difficult and your life is changed, however you chose, because lcis is a significant diagnoses.

Cats, Has it been 4 months now since your PBM? How are you feeling? I am trying to make my decision and if I opt for the surgery I will not have reconstruction.  Are you still feeling okay about not having any breasts when you look in the mirror? If you don't mind I would like to ask you a few questions regarding the surgery? Let me know if I can send you another personal message.

I don't know my paternal family history. As far as maternal all I have is a cousin and an aunt and both live in Cuba were no meds. or proper treatment is available. I am blessed to say that LCIS has given a new prospective on my life and I value the time I have on this earth because I don't know what tomorrow holds. I am also blessed to say with LCIS we have the time to heal and research what is the best for us. Many women do not have the time to even think about what is next. I've learn so much and I have seeing four doctors, the latest one is not my favorite so I can elimanate him. I am happy to say I've found a great oncologist, and his mother is a bc survivor, he knows from first hand what is like to have bc. He is a suvirvor from kidney cancerso so far he is the best doctor I've spoken to. We have to stop this deceased from invading us!!!!!!! Praying for all of us. Rita
