Swollen Lymph Nodes - Recurrence?

Hello ladies,

I am reposting this from the Not Diagnosed but Scared forum where I originally put it. I hope that isn't breaking any rules.

I am an 'almost' 3 year survivor and back on this board with a new concern. I am of course off to the Doctor next week to check this out but in the meantime I have to make it through the next 5 days. I have 3 lymph nodes in my armpit (cancer side) that are extremely painful and swollen. I know that before cancer I experienced this frequently and was under the presumption that I was fighting off infections as that is how I was always diagnosed. But after being diagnosed with extensive DCIS after suffering for over a decade with fibrocystic breasts, I now question whether the swollen lymph nodes of the past were related to the cancer lurking in my body for almost a decade and can't stop the fears from swelling up inside me that this ugly beast has returned. Have any of you experienced swollen nodes in your armpit after a cancer diagnosis that turned out to be nothing more than swollen nodes as a result of some other infection. I feel absolutely sick to my stomach and am embarrassed to admit that calmness and rationale have deserted me.

frywoman,  I know EXACTLY how you feel.  Just a few days ago I discovered swollen lymph nodes near my shoulder - not under the arm but more in front of it....I actually did a search on the web to see if that spot was nodes. It is. So, now I feel like you do and I'm worried. But I've talked myself out of calling my doc yet because I had an MRI last week and nothing on that side was noted (at least nothing was mentioned to me when the docs office called with the results). I hope you just have an infection....because that's what I'm telling myself I have. I too was dxs with DCIS, Grade 3 in 2009. Please let me know how you make out and I'll be saying prayers that you just get the flu.
