Hair Growth

Options

Hi Ladies...so here's my issue...and in the big scheme of things it is very minor.  I finished my treatment for breast cancer the end of April 2009...lost all my hair.  Prior to bc treatment I had fabulous curls...and then after treatment well my hair has not grown back as nice and the growth is really weird.   It seems that the hair on the top of my head is growing nicely but the sides, crown and back of my head the hair is growing SUPER slow.  This has been the issue since my hair started coming back in (summer/fall of 2009).

I would love to try to grow my hair longer again however it is SO frustrating because the growth pattern in just so weird.  Also the curl pattern is VERYdifferent than before bc (not nearly as nice)

I'm also post menopausal so perhaps the weird hair growth/curl pattern is a combo of the result of cancer treatment and being post menopausal.  I am not taking any post cancer meds nor any meds.

Any ideas?

Thanks Carol

Have you discussed this with your doctor? I have read that thyroid problems can inhibit hair growth. I would definitely talk to the doc.

Other than that, you could try a supplement that contains biotin. Also, Minoxidil or Rogaine are hair restorative treatments that work for some people. I think you can buy these over the counter, maybe at a pharmacy? You can also buy them online.

Nioxin shampoo system is also good for promoting a healthy scalp and keeping hair on the head.

If all else fails you can consult a hair loss specialist.

    Good luck.

Hi Racy...thanks so much.  I'll give my doctor a call to start.  Smile
