Checking Stats
I've just read on the HER 2 Forum "most women diagnosed with breast cancer are diagnosed with stage IV or end up stage IV". How does this fit with all the statistics that often suggest a 80-85% chance of 10 year survival etc?

I think that's completely wrong.
-
Yep, sounds like a load of bol****ks to me.
-
Most women are dx early stage. It was probably just a typo.
-
Sydneybased, it would be good if you can post this question on the relevant thread to give the poster of the comment the opportunity to correct the record, for readers of that thread.

Hi Racy, the comment was on the HER2 support forum - different to breastcancer.org
-
Ok, thanks.
-
I belong to the her2 site and don't recall that. I know there are some posters who may say things like that. Anyhow I ignore it.
-
Funny, I read the same exact thing, probably the same post you were reading and it has been bothering me for days!!!!
I believe it was said by a poster, not listed as a fact on the site! I believe the woman said that breast cancer was lethal, and that most of us will end up stage IV. The woman was stage IV. There was a lot of very interesting and informative information she was giving, but this was just one small part that stuck with me. I would like to think it may be a possibility as much as it may not be true at all...
True or not, we can't let this kind of stuff get to us! We have no control over what the future holds, we have to just live today...
-
I'm on that forum too and don't remember seeing it. It may have been a typo though, I have found the vast majority of women there well-educated and intelligent.
-
Coolbreeze, it was in the thread about two bloggers who had died recently (I think)
-
Coolbreeze & Sydneybased
I read this as well and found it distressing, as well as incorrect. Many Stage 1'ers in particular will die from something other than breast cancer. Sydneysider, check out your stats against Cancer Math and you will feel more at ease.
It is the 8th post on this thread
-
Sorry! That was rather inelegantly put. What I meant to say was that many, many women live their lives with breast cancer and/or never recur.
-
I agree with Coolbreeze, very well educated and intelligent women over there with lots of good information. But I find it hard to navigate. It is much easier here.
-
Yeah, ignore it and move on.
