Atypia in the Lymph Node
Anyone ever have an ALH or ADH DX and been told the Atypia is in a lymph node? Does Atypia get into the Lymph Nodes normally?

Mach - Just being nosy, but is that a new diagnosis for you? I personally have not heard of it, but that doesn't mean a thing. Did they do a node biopsy to find it?

Hi Farmerlucydaisy-- They actually did a FNA biopsy during all of the testing and biopsies I had done in June/July. They thought the node seemed enlarged at the time. The pathology report said there was atypia in the node. At the time the Dr. said she really thought the results were an anomaly and that maybe the radiologist had caught some breast tissue in the sample. We discussed taking it out during the lumpectomy for two other spots but she was concerned about touching the lymph nodes because there are so many more potential side effects. She even took the information to a conference and asked for their opinions. In the end we decided against taking it out and I didn't even know about the ALH yet so I didn't think to ask what any of it meant at the time.
Now, The node is swollen (I can feel it) and a little sore. I had a sonogram on it last week and the radiologist said it had grown. So, the doctor and the radiologist talked and decided it didn't make sense to biopsy it again since it will probably come back with the same results. Better to just excise it and take a look at what is going on. Now I am scheduled to have it removed Friday.
So I should have asked when I was with the dr. but as usual I didn't think about it. Like I'm wondering if the Atypia is the same as the ALH or if it is a special lymph node atypia. I can't find anything on Dr. Google about atypia in the lymph node and I won't be able to ask the dr. til Firday. I just thought I'd see if anyone had heard of this. Thanks for responding.
BTW, are you having your surgery soon?

Yep - surgery is next Tues. Don't really know what to expect. Generally I bounce right back from everything, so I'm hoping that is the case this time. I have been working out like a mad woman since Nov, I figure it can't hurt.
Sorry about the node trouble. You know you are an anomaly when they want to present your case at a conference. It stinks that you have to go through more of this %^$& again. Praying that all goes well for you Friday.
The only thing I am mildly concerned about re:surgery is there is something lurking in there that did not show up on the MRI. Absolutely no reason to assume that at all. The great thing about the surgery is that they are not taking any nodes, which should make the recovery much easier.
Stay in touch my ALH / ADH sista!

Jill- this is exactly what I worry about even though there is no logical reason to think this.

I'll be praying that your surgery goes well too. I'm sure the peace of mind you will get will be worth it in the end.
BTW, I just noticed your icon says OK. I grew up in Tulsa/Broken Arrow. Any chance you did too?
