Insurance company cut me off

Options

Hi there, I was laid off right before I got bc.  My short and long term benefits were cut off early even though it is common law (in Canada anyway) that benefits have to continue during a severance period.  I had to utilize a lawyer to get them back for me....now have a $6000.00 bill which I am going to try to sue them for.  BTW...they are a billion dollar company.  My insurance carrier was not too happy that I got reinstated and treated me terribly.  I wasn't on long term very long and then a week after I finished radiation (I had surgery, chemo, more surgery, radiation) when I was not feeling well at all, they called me to let me know I SHOULD be feeling good and I was terminated.  I appealed last September and they took until this January to deny me.  I have called a lawyer.  Has anyone had this experience and did you win against an insurance company?  My doctors all think I should fight this.  All this on top of the cancer has caused me undue stress.

I'm confused. What in the world are you paying $6000.00 for? In Canada? All treatments are covered, no? I've never paid a dime for anything.

Think we're talking company supplied long term or short tern disability here - the $6,000 seems to have been the lawyer's fees to challenge the insurance company and the company she worked for.

I misunderstood. I'm not familiar with how things work in Ont. I'm so sorry Cat. I can't imagine not having an income while going through treatment. I hope at the very least you win your lawsuit.
