I lifted this from another board out here - there was a lot of talk about Susan B. Komen and the race for the "cure" - a wise woman stated it should really be a race for the "cause."

I've been thinking about this a great deal. We don't have much to go on regarding causes of breast cancer. The is speculation about things change like the wind - soy is good for you, soy is bad. Red wine is good, red wine is bad.   Smoking is bad, smoking doesn't matter. Being overweight is bad, weight doesn't matter. Antiperspirants, pollution, breast feeding, the list goes on and on. The risk calculator is all we have and it's not perfect and also shouldn't be looked at with much scientific rigor.

With lung cancer, there is *usually* a tie to smoking, carcinogens, asbestos, etc. Skin cancer, tie to the sun.  I suppose there are other cancers with this inability for prevention and being surprised by the diagnosis such as prostate cancer, but that is curable over 90% of the time and usually doesn't metastasize quickly.

I've just been thinking about this a great deal - maybe us high risk gals could start a nonprofit that is the race for the cause! :-)
