Fatique

I am five months in recovery from a single mastectomy for extensive DCIS. I am still tired. A feeling of fatique washes over me, from feet to head, like a kind of wave. The first three months after the op, I had such dizziness that several times I thought I was going to crash to the ground (I sat down so as not to fall). This dizziness is far less common but still exists, I suppose, every two weeks or so. I am 67 and I was burned out caring for my husband, who has advanced cancer, before the op. But even so I would have thought the fatique might have gone by now. I am doing mat exercises, about 20 mins, about three times a week. I plan to start taking walks - 1-2 hours when the weather is better in the UK. I feel ashamed of my lack of energy and resilience. DCIS is no big deal. I don't even have to have radiotherapy.

Hi Notpositive, no you didn't have radiotherapy but you did have a major operation.  It's not just the physical part of BC that is exhausting but the emotional and mental side of it as well.  Take it easy on yourself and give your self time........it will come good but it does take quite a while.

    Wishing you well.

    Love n hugs.  Chrissy

Are you sure you are not anemic perhaps? I would get checked out, because I don't think you should be this tired at this point.

Hello Notpositive, and welcome to BCO.

Dizziness seems like something you'll want to get checked by your doctor. The main Breastcancer.org site cites a few things that can lead to dizziness, from dehydration to some hormonal treatments. Before you start those long walks, please see your doctor, and come back to let us know what you learn.
