Any nurses out there????

Options

So I wanted to start a topic for nurses who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. I am 26 and was diagnosed 4 weeks ago. I had a unilateral mastectomy one week ago. I am waiting on my oncotyping to come back to decide if I need chemo or not. I am currently on short term disability. I work at a children's hospital in one of our ICUs...not only am I nervous to go back after surgery to do lifting, but don't think it's wise to work in a hospital while I am getting chemo (if needed). I already can't imagine going back to work helping others when My priority needs to be me. Any thoughts or stories nurses???

Hi, I am a nurse I work 36 hour nights in a CCU i Boston.  I had a lumpectomy with 2 re-excisions in Sept and Oct.  I just finished DD A/C x4 and just started weekly taxol and herceptin x12.  I had minimal s/e with the AC so I have been able to work. I didn't have much sick time and financially I had to continue if I was able.  I am so glad that I have felt well enough.  I also think it has helped me to continue to feel "normal".  I do have a FMLA so I am able to take time off if I need to.  You need to do what is right for you.  I try and just take it one day at at a time.  Good Luck!!!
