Pain at biopsy site after UMX

I posted this in the surgery forum, but have not had any responses yet, so I thought I would add it over here since I have DCIS.  Thanks!

Has anyone experienced pain at the site of the stereotactic biopsy after a skin sparing mastectomy?  A little history.... This first occured about 2 mos. after my unilateral mastectomy last June.  I had an immediate cohesive silicone implant with alloderm.  In November, I had a lift on the remaining breast, along with nipple construction on the foob.  Prior to going into the OR, I mentioned to my surgeon that I was not happy with the way the implant would race toward my armpit whenever I flexed or moved my arm and that I was having almost constant pain around the area of my biopsy.  He agreed that we needed to do a little revision, so he removed the implant and put some stitches along the outer edge of the pocket and then replaced the implant.  I have been very pleased with the result.  There is not as much movement in the implant and it sits higher on my chest wall.  And as an added bonus...the pain that I had been feeling was gone...up until this morning.  I woke up and as I was getting out of bed, that old pain had returned.  My surgeon told me that he broke up some adhesions when he was in there...so maybe they have returned?  I have been going to a myofascial Physical Therapist for months, both pre and post op.  So between my at home breast message and my treatments, you would not think that I would not have a lot of scar tissue forming.  Could it be something else?  Any thoughts ladies?  Thank you

    1openheart,

My situation is so different it may not apply at all, but it is pain after biopsy and lumpectomy (from same area) for at least a couple of weeks.  Probably a 2 on the pain scale.  24 days after the lumpectomy I had a NSBMX with tissue flap reconstruction.  I had some extra fluid come out of the drainage of that breast and pain in that particular area just after reconstruction for awhile.  I noticed it especially when I walked (probably a 4 on pain scale) and it lasted for 3 to 3 1/2 weeks post surgery.  I am now just over 6 wks post surgery and that pain is gone, just a slight pain around my incision area which is getting better each day.  Anyway, that is my story;  however, I would suggest calling your surgeon if you pain continues.  Wishing you well as you navigate this.

    Thanks stac

Yes, what I am feeling is different.  Both times it has occured around 2-3 mos after the implant was put in.  The first time with the UMX and the second time after PS removed  and replaced it during the revision. It is pretty constant discomfort.  Any movement, even a deep breath makes it hurt. Sure gets my attention!  I'm going to mention it to my onc. when I go in for my check up tomorrow.

Glad you are doing so well.
