Are Yearly Checkups Enough?

Hi -

I am 60 years old and had a single mastectomy and free flap reconstruction last May for DCIS. My diagnosis was Stage1, as they also found a micro invasion on the final pathology. I was ER+/PR+/HER- and didn't have to have radiation or chemo.

Anyway, I went for my six month checkup in December and everything looked good, although I was a wreck while going through two mammograms, a 3D mammogram, and two sonograms for the "good" breast that day.

The BS told me to make an appointment for next year at the same time. It looks like everyone mentions their 6 month check-ups and I was wondering if a check-up yearly is often enough?

What determines how often you go back for check-ups?

Thanks.

I'm two years out now and only seen 1x/year, diagnostic mammogram on both sides and also ultrasound on left side. My BS determines frequency. Previously it was every 6 months.

I don't feel they are enough either.  My BS said one year for my remaining breast.  I expressed my concern to my gyn who told me to call her at six months and tell her there was something 'suspicious' and she would get me a mammogram.  I had calcs on that side that they followed for 2 years, every 6 months.  They determined they haven't changed so they are ok but it still scares me.  Thats why I am close to deciding to remove that breast as well.
