How Freaky Is This?

So my Mom whom is a 10 year BC survivor just called me to tell me they found a suspicious area on my sister's mamo/ultrasound (they were following up on a previoius cyst and this is in that same area, but they are saying it doesn't look the same as last study), so now they want to do an MRI.

Holy shit, what are the chances that she's going to have it too?????  I tested negative on the BRACA, and here's the freaky thing-----NONE of us are biologically related.  My sister and I are BOTH adopted so there is no genetic ties amongst the 3 of us!

Of course I'm praying this all turns out to be nothing, but damn, was it something environmental growing up?  Or my Dad (now deceased) was a chain smoker, so I know all that second hand smoke didn't help any of us.  Damn it I hate this freakin disease!

Any of you ladies that pray out there, please could you send some up for my sis?  I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

Thanks,

Sharon

Crap! That is freaky if it does happen to her...seriously, what are the chances other than being a woman, maybe it was enviromental.  I understand freaky though, I tested + for BRCA and I'm the only one in my family who has BC...sometimes I wonder does it even help knowing one way or another.  Prayers going up, I hope it's nothing.

So sorry she is undergoing this stress.  I hope it is benign.  My younger sister was dxed before me and was my greatest support during my treatment.

    Sharon

It is freaky but then again, this crap does give a sh** about who it invades so it is not that uncommon with 1 in 10 women going to get some form of bc in their lifetime.  Sad - I will say a prayer....

I just hope that your sis doesn't have BC.  I was more stressed about my SIL's MRI than my own scans.  None of us wants to see others being dragged into this.  I'm sending positive thoughts and cyber hugs.

Also send prayers to your sister.

I don't think it matter who you are or what you do.. Cancer happens. Even if no cancer in the family and if you are a health food person and exercise all the time.. it still happens!

Similar, but different - Dad died in 2001 from stage IV lung cancer, dx at age 82 and did Taxol twice (that humbles me), brother was diagnosed with bile duct cancer in 2008, dead 60 days after diagnosis. I was dx in 2010.  None of us are related as brother and I were adopted, but we did move into a home in 1959 that was10 miles from the location of a nuclear accident that had happened 6 months earlier but was never publicized until many years later.  On the same street of 10 houses were liver cancer (2 cases) and stomach cancer.  All of us original residents.  Hmmm...

Hoping for the best for your sister.

crog - I know crazy, huh?  I lived there for the shortest time out of the family - from the age of 3 to 18 when I left for college.  I was dx last, my Dad was there the longest and was dx first.  It just seems like a lot of cancer for a small group of people - as I said 10 houses.  Here is a link for the incident if anyone is curious:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sodium_Reactor_Experiment We moved in less than 6 months after this happened, and it was an awfully long time until they tested the soil and groundwater.

There are a lot of us adoptees!  There was a specific adoptee thread a while back but I have not seen activity lately.  It makes knowing family history tricky, doesn't it?  I was glad I was able to have BRCA testing done on the day of diagnosis.

    Hi again girls,

Still waiting for sis to have the MRI.  When she called today they said they wanted to wait until just after her next period, so unless her doc (who was out today) pushes for it we'll have a bit of a wait.

Crog and SpecialK---it is interesting about us adoptees.  I actually have located and gotten to know my biological Mom and there is BC on her side---her sister---which the docs don't really consider a direct link at this point.  Unfortunately I do not know about my BF side, BM still hasn't given me a lot to go on with him as of this point.

As for neighborhoods, ours (where I did not grow up in) has had extensive cancer as well.  The man who lived in our house died from it, a lady just around the corner, and a woman up the street about 4 houses had BC (she's still with us).  It probably wouldn't do much for property values, but it would be REAL interesting to see what the percentage is in my area.  All I know is Maryland is supposedly has one of the highest cancer rates in the Country.

    Take care,

    Sharon

There a county here in wisconsin that is suppose to have the highest BC rate in the country...I'm wondering if there is history there that was never public knowledge. ..

My dad was diagnosed in 1980, lung cancer stage four and given 3 weeks to live...died in 2003 of pneumonia. My mom, sister, brother, and my niece have PKD and many family members down the line have been lost from that nasty disease....its just so strange what comes our way, how we work with what we have, and all. I wasn't adopted but...I'm Still pretty confused! LOL

I was convinced for awhile that I got cancer because of the place I worked. There has been 3 breast cancers, 1 lung cancer ( she has died), one I think was liver cancer and another person that I never found out for sure if they had cancer or not.... Just makes you wonder. the place I worked at has maybe 30 people... Lots of cancer for such a small place.....

Pupfoster1 and SpecialK.... I found my birth sister ( we have the same mother and father) and she was adopted into the family. She has said there was no breast cancer that she knows of. Our birth mother had ovarian cancer..
