Hope for Dense Breasts
As one who faithfully had a yearly mammogram, even 2 follow ups the year I found on my own lump that was not found on all of those mammograms, I wanted to share this encouraging video that offers future hope for the many women who have dense breasts. It's worth viewing.

I had very dense breast It was hidden behind the density, thank god the radiologist saw somethig pulling on the tissue. I would go every year religously and surprise......I tell everyone if they have dense breast request more than just a regular mamo. Thanks for sharing, I'll take a look.

I heard at my last oncologist visit that I had dense breasts (news to me, no-one ever said so). I am getting one yearly mammogram on the remaining breast and zilch on the other side. It is a digital mammogram but I feel I should be getting and MRI. I also wonder why they wouldn't want to at least do an ultrasound on the other side to make sure the nodes remain clear. I had all of my axillary nodes out, but what about the rest. I really have no idea what to look for. Will look at the link now!

Wow! I have been very frustrated with the imaging currently available. I have extremely dense breasts and wonder how they will see cancer if it comes back. This technology is very encouraging. I just hope the Susan G Komen foundation doesn't pull their funding also!

The posted video is informative, touching, and at times humorous--well worth watching. Thanks Shanagirl for posting it!

Wow! Thank you for sharing this. It validates many women's stories here, including my own.

Barb,
Thank you for this post. I had "fibrograndular densiites scattered" on my only breast and wondered if this was considered dense. Your link answered the question. I am going to email the link to all those I love. I am still opting for a prophylactic removal as I have chronic pain in that breast.

Thank you for sharing this video clip. I have extremely dense breasts and my mass was only seen on mri. Because of my density, I now have available to me a yearly mri and a yearly mammogram. This new inovation seems quite incredible prompting me to further look into this new screening method. I hope to see this type of screening available in the near future.

Thanks for posting this Barb! Very interesting and very hopeful.
Yesterday I was re-organizing my medical papers. Part of my study protocol was that I needed to have either a US or mammogram every 4 weeks while on chemo. Right smack in the middle of my no-response chemo, I got a mammogram instead of a US. For some reason, the radiologist sent out one of those form letters with the results -- the ones you get when you're doing a screening mammo. The letter proudly says that "we are pleased to inform you that the results of your recent breast imaging examination are normal"! Sheesh! Come'on Mr. Radiologist, you already had a cheat sheet with my MRI results so you should have known the correct answer is that I still had 5 cm of tumor left in me!

Anacortes, that is horrifying...wow. I hope that this new equipment becomes the standard. It was quite amazing to watch.

I've aways wondered if the fact that I was followed for microcalicfications and have dense breast tissue, if that could hide anything on the other breast. Going for my yearly mammo this month and just hate to go.
