I was excited to start eating Lima Beans but since it wasn't actually Dr. Oz who said to eat lima beans I decided to google Lima beans and Breast Cancer. This is just one ofthe articles that says "Do not eat Lima Beans!" Read this!

Hillside,
Thanks for that info. I never knew that about raw lima beans. I don't think I ever thought about it! Every other vegetable we get, we generally get fresh, and there's nothing I won't sample raw except maybe beets. Love beets. Love most of it. Love lima beans. I'm assuming fresh from the freezer = raw for lima beans. I've eaten a whole lot that way, had no idea doing so had a risk.
I don't need to eat lima beans daily or anything, but Apple's posts are making me hungry.
I feel that way about so many foods fresh in from the garden, early in their season.

Everything I found points to Lima beans are good for ER- NOT ER+
-
Genistein is the compound in Lima beans and Soybeans that is not recommended for ER+ BC. Genistein is also in........COFFEE!

Debbie.. you can do them indoors.. but they'll probably get to tall before they bear 'fruit'.. you could take them out for a big sunshine dose whenever possible.. i don't know really.. i've tried them indoors and they did ok.. not great. . they are so cheap to buy as seeds.. just buy a bag at the grocer's you can just stick them in a bucket, or the ground.. along a fenc AND indoors.
We have some major deer problems.. This year I am going to try growing tomatoes in buckets on my deck.. and will plant the beans in, in just a week or two. you can always plant more. I'll stick one pole in each bucket and tie them up a bit... also snow peas and sugar snaps.. they really are a spring delights. Oddly, the deer don't bother the garden greens too much. I'll do spring onions arugula, spinach, chard... just see what a get until May.

Thanks Apple, im going to buy some seeds and try them indoors, we have a lot of deer around us and gophers (sp) I have a big huge bay window it will be perfect for starting out.

I like them, but I am skeptical that any food can stop the growth of any cancer.
-
I think the lima beans are suppose to stop blood flow to the tumors.

There have been plenty of foods mentioned on Dr. Oz to kill or prevent cancer. I like lima beans but haven't managed to try any. I have, however, eaten a lot of the foods they recommend for most of my life and so am a bit skeptical. I have been eating a hand full of walnuts each day (supposed to shrink tumours), tried eating sweet potatoes but got sick of them (supposed to cause apotosis), was eating tons of asparagus during chemo (supposed to improve the efficiacy of chemo - I'm stable but not in remission; supposed to fight cancer) and now can't stand the sight of it...I'm now taking dandelion root capsules, BroccoGen capsules along with my Tamoxifen and Clasteon! Oh, can't forget the monthly Zoladex. I do really want to meet NED, so I guess maybe I'll add the lima beans and whatever else I have to.

There is only so much you can take or do. I feel like I have a vitamin shop in my cabinet! Sooner or later I am going to have to narrow the field to the top ten or so supplements and be done with it! I love lima beans, but my boyfriend hates them, so they will have to go to the bottom of the list!
