Erika8, I love to walk early in the morning, too. I have been sleeping in later lately. Enjoy your walk!!!! I am hoping to get to the gym today!!! Love reading all your posts!!! Just reading the greetings here so encourages me. Yesterday I was tired and went home from work and took a long hot bath, and just collapsed. Today I feel so much better. It is a sunny day and I am looking forward to getting in a walk in after work since rain is forcasted for the weekend. I work in a school as a scretary and there is so much treats around. Today a student brought in cupcakes for her birthday and you dare not refuse when they tell you they baked them. So temptation is all around. But coming here gives me resolve to keep trying. Enjoy the day!
-
CarolnLA, I also work in a school as a nurse so I know what your talking about, it's not easy. I am starting a new job as a field nure in a few weeks & have to readjust to my eatting. I did this in the past & it was so easy to do the drive through....now I'm looking for a new cooler so I can pack more healthy food. Its just a matter of buying & packing the right type of food. I am determined.
Home from the hospital & had my long needed shower & relaxed in the sunshine for about 1/2 hour. I'm going to treat myself to a nice nap in my recliner now....no sleeping in the hospital!!!
Enjoy the rest of the afternoon ladies!!!
Janet -
Dear CarolnLA, So glad you are joining us!!!! I used to work in a school and the birthday treats were such a temptation. You are a stronger woman than I was, he,he!!! Please enjoy your walk in the sunshine after school. Janet, I am so glad you are home and recovering. It feels so good to take a shower in your own home. Enjoy your nap, you deserve it!!!!!! I did get to the gym this morning, thank goodness it is right downstairs in the same building where we live. I do the elyptical and the stationary bike. Weigh in tomorrow!!!! Thanks to you
all for keeping me so inspired and motivated. Hug to you all!!!!!! Kathy

Hi everyone------it got very warm today but felt wonderful. Worked, then went to the bike path for my walk, the track was in use,
It still felt good, there were a lot of people out there today. Such a nice day early in the spring and most everyone will say hi as you pass them on the path. We haven't got crabby yet from the humidity which will come later!
Came home and decided to light the grill for dinner. Had grilled chicken breast and grilled mixed vegetables and a salad. I always used to fix zucchini with the breading and then fry it---now we are really liking it just brushed with olive oil and grilled. Love the warm weather when you can cook outside!
So glad to hear you are home, tenaj!! Hope you enjoyed that nap! My mom was a nurse, and for a little while she worked as a school nurse too. I remember her enjoying her time at the school. Take it easy as you get back on your feet. It must be pretty and warm out your way too! Enjoy these nice days.
Kindergarden----good luck on your weigh in day, you and your husband have been working so hard!
Carol, cookie, erika----keep at it----starting a new good habit isnt always easy. After a few weeks you really start looking forward to those walks or exercises. At first I had to fight my inner rebellious child who didnt always want to get out there and walk.
We are supposed to have rain tomorrow too, hopefully not until later in the afternoon. Will try and get out there in the morning. Good luck to everyone and have a great day tomorrow! judy

Hi Ladies
just came back from my walk again i feel good
just like to wish everybody a great Day
-
Good Morning to all,
Feeling good about today. Didn't get my walk in yesterday, it was so windy here when I got home from work that I would have blown away, well not me but my little dog anyway. But I did eat heathly. Today I get off work for therapy so going to take advantage and stop at this nice park nearby, weather permitting, and enjoy a walk in the park. Hope all of you are having a great day too!

Hi, I'm Lhasamon (Lynn), oh boy do I NEED this thread! Recovering from reconstruction. I try to avoid mirrors like a vampire! I use to be so active, my job had me on my feet for 8 hours a day, which kept my weight somewhat in check. When the business closed, I had hand surgery which put an end to my gym membership since I wasn't allowed to drive for 4 months. Then just as I was getting back to walking every day (almost), I got the letter on my 51st birthday that there was a problem with my mammos', an ultrasound. Had a biopsy and on 7/5/11 got the news I had breast cancer. I am sooo overweight now,I hate myself! You would think that having a dog would be great, right? Well, my Lhasa Apso, Bob Barker, Jr, is a dog who does NOT like to walk! We'll be in the middle of a nice walk, and he turns into "statue dog". Will not budge an inch! Doesn't matter if I tug on the leash, hold a treat out for him, or scratch his hind end like "the dog whisperer" says. He IS NOT GOING TO MOVE!!! I hate walking by myself!
I wanted to join the gym that opened up down the street, but I'm still not authorized to drive yet. Oh, yeah, the week before my mastectomy I was in a horrible auto accident. Guy ran the red light and T-boned my side of the vehicle! Scheduled for another bone scan and MRI that will hopefuly show my neck problems are okay now. I doubt it cause I still can't turn my head , and I have headaches every day! Sigh So, I DESPERATLEY need an excercise buddy who will tell me to get off my lazy arse and get moving!!! Oh, I have an Ipod that I used to listen to when on the treadmill at gym. However, can't find the stupid dockng station to recharge it! grrrrrrrrrrrrr And to litterally put the icing on the cake, I am a cake decorator on the side!!!!
-
Lynn - I also do cake decorating. Nice to meet you. I've not done much decorating lately, hopefully I can do more as my life settled down some.
Consider us your cheerleaders - you can do it (I hate walking alone too, but I do it while DS is at soccer practice, otherwise I would just sit there the whole 90 minutes).
I'll walk this afternoon while he plays.
-
Welcome Lynn.... You will get much support from these wonderful ladies here.
I love to bake & have done some decorating only as a hobby.
Lynn you have been through so much, very sorry to hear. You are in the healing & rebuilding phase now and you can do it!!!
CookieMonster I'm glad you found someone to walk with. It is more enjoyable ...
Caroln good job on the healthy food choices that helps, also drinking lots & lots of water.
Erika glad you got to get your walk in and are feeling well.
Thinking about you too Kathy & Judy ... Hope you are enjoying your day.
I slept almost all day yest and just about through the night. I guess I was exhausted. Didn't get to get a walk in yet, I'm waiting now with my DH for his follow up, hopefully he won't need his boot contraption anymore. The car just about drives itself here now...lol boy am I tired of all these appointments.
I weighed myself this morning and unfortunately I gained all 3 lbs I lost. :-( I guess the food was too good at the hospital. Going to make some cabbage/vegetable soup for dinner. That usually helps with my weight loss. I am picking my DD up from the ferry tomorrow after work!!!! We get to celebrate her birthday. As tradition the kids get to pick their dinner choice and she choose pot roast & home made potato dumplings. A favorite of all of ours...except they are not so good for the waist as they call me from the refrigerator.....gonna have to control it this time. Now that I said it I won't listen to them. LOL
Enjoy the rest of your day!! -
i try to walk every Day but next 3 days rain bummer

Hey, Lynn, Oh, my goodness, you have been through so much, you are one strong woman. We will all definitely be your exercise buddies, maybe not physically, but mentally and emotionally. You have come to a great thread where everyone here will encourage you, I try to come here every day to read all the posts and I can truly say that because of this thread, I feel and look better. Don't be too hard on yourself, you have been through alot.Janet, you have been through alot yourself, the 3lbs, is probably just water. Please enjoy your daughter's birthday dinner, tomorrow is another day. I hope you are feeling better and the cellulitis is gone. Hi, Cookiemonster, Erika8 and CarolnLA, I hope you all have a great weekend. Did not do any walking yet today, a little tired, but eating O.K. Hugs, Kathy
-
Hi, Ladies, I did get a walk in last evening, felt good, but still eating too many dark chocolate Acai covered blueberries, they are so yummy! I am addicted, he,he,he! Weighed in this morning, did not gain or lose this week, oh well! There is next Friday, definitely cutting back on those dang blueberries!! and lots of walking this weekend!!! Have a great weekend, everyone!!!!
-
Just checking in......worked today, came home did a little yoga & games on wii fit! It was 70 days since I was last on....wow. I did better than I thought :-).
Leaving to meet my DD at the Orient Ferry. Looking forward to spending time with her.
I'll do my best to eat healthy this weekend. It's going to be tough....I already hear those potato dumplings calling me!!!!! LOL
Everyone enjoy your weekend!
Janet -
Kathy, they are addicting! Mmmmmmm
-
Hi all,
I was up 0.6 on Thursday morning - not a huge shock. Have been eating better since then. Walked at DS' soccer practice again - for over 45 minutes. Forgot my tunes, but still walked, just me and my thoughts. There's lots of them right now.
Tonight DH and I get to go to a benefit from school, should be a fun time with friends.
DS' soccer tournament got cancelled for this weekend because of the rain. We'll have to find something else fun to do instead.
Thanks to you all for the cheering on.
Take care, happy weekend!
-
Hey everyone. I have not been very good at healthy eating or exercise. I wish I were close to one of you to be a walking buddy:).
My husband will walk with me I just have no get up and go when I get home from work.
Tomorrow we will be watching our 4 grandsons. I am going to count that as exercise:). Better than sitting around all day.
Marsha -
Hi ,Marsha!!! That would so great if we could all walk together, how much fun would we have? You will get lots of exercise watching your grandsons. Have fun!!!!! Janet, do you share your potato dumpling recipe?? Would love it!!!!
-
Hi everyone---------ATeam, I think that watching 4 grandsons will definitely count as exercise! I have just been getting back to work myself, if I come home and sit down, that about does it, I don't want to get back up! A couple times this week I have gone right from work to go walk, havent been able to get myself up early and go before work though I keep telling myself to do that. I think that I am sleeping better since I have been walking. I used to be up by 5 or 5:30 most days but today it was almost 8 when I got up. That is a big change for me.
tenaj----enjoy your weekend with your DD! Pot roast and potato dumplings sounds absolutely yummy! It sounds like you got caught up on your rest. That worked out just right for your weekend---have a great one!
Kathy-----Enjoy your walks this weekend. Is it getting really warm out there in Ca? It is crazy warm in Ohio for March. Took my walk today and had to take off the jacket after just a couple lanes on the track, I was sweating. I know that just a couple weeks ago, I was wearing my coat, scarf and gloves when I went walking. DH saw a magnolia tree in bud, don't think I ever saw one bloom this early. We are all wondering what April will be like. Long ago when my son was a little boy, we had a 12 inch snow in April ----certainly don't want that, but this is a really unpredictable weather year so far.
Hello Lynn---welcome and hope you get to feeling better---hope your neck will feel better after that car accident. I know what you mean about avoiding mirrors---I had been doing that too. Didnt want to go buy new clothes, didnt want to go anywhere near a dressing room. The hardest step is the first one. Keep at it and it really will get better. Thats funny about your dog----he just decides when he has had enough---:) I like his name.
Erika----hope you will get a break in the rain so you can take your walks. Cookie----sounds like you are doing good, that 45 minutes of walking feels so good, doesnt it? Have a good weekend everyone---enjoy the weather and your families and just being part of this big old world! hugs to all, judy

Kathy, my mother taught me a lot of great recipes. All the same way by sight, not measuring exactly. She would boil all purpose potato's, about 5 lbs(we love left overs). Rice them into a pile on the counter or very large bowl while they were still warm. Then let them cool, make a well in the middle, and put 3-4 eggs. Salt the potato's, sprinkle farina at least 1 cup and at least 3 cups all purpose flour over the potato's. Mix with hand until not sticky but not too dry. She always could tell by the consistency if more farina or flour were needed. Roll into long logs then cut into 1-11/2 inch pieces. Boil in salted water for several minutes after they come to the top of the boiling water. Did them in several batches. Really delicious with pot roast gravy. As a kid when I didn't eat pot roast, she would open a can of Campbell's tomatoe soup. Now I know better....it took a while for me to learn to eat better. Now I eat too much because I like everything... LOL

Hey, Jaytee!!!! That is so funny, I have also been sleeping in a little later since walking more. We have been also watching our older son coach a baseball team in the evenings, it is cold here at night. The cold, fresh air really helps me sleep, hugs to all of you, Good night!!!!

-
Dear Janet, I just saw your delicious recipe, before I signed off!!!! Thank you, thank you!!!! Can't wait to try your recipe!!!!
-
Jaytee, it is a bit strange with the buds out and flowers that are booming already. I like the earlier spring but it is a little scary. Exercise is always good to help you sleep better. If I don't exercise as soon as I get home from work, I'm done. I'll cook or sit down & then I can't move. That is why I wanted my new job to be part time. I still have a lot of work to do for myself to get healthier, plus I still have too many MD appointments. I'm working mon & tues and after work going out with coworkers for a farewell dinner. I start my new job on the 26th.
Nana: taking care of 4 grandsons is definitely excercise.
CookieMonster: you sound like you are doing well with walking, great job. If the weather is bad, just keep moving. Take the time inside to do some stretching or very simple yoga. Do your kids have wii? They have a great fitness program.
Have a good night sleep all and a lovely day tomorrow.
Janet -
Oh my gosh, that recipe sounds wonderful. My family would love it. My grandmother always cooked like that too, dont think she ever used a recipe. She used to make homemade bread every week---love, love, love that smell in the house! Know what you mean by too many Md appointments! I have never been to so many doctors in my life. Am trying to get out from under a cardiologists care--ended up there from the A/C chemo and herceptin. He should be very proud of me when I tell him how much walking I have been doing. When I saw my onc last, she said I should see a urologist because of the kidney stone that she could see on the CT scan. I dont want to do that----am ready to try one of the weird home remedies for kidney stones that I have seen on the net!
Kathy----does your son coach little kids or older ones? Its fun to watch the little ones as they are learning how to play. There are always one or two just standing there looking up at the sky or in their own little world. So cute. We loved going to baseball games when we were kids, Our school would give us tickets to Cincinnat Reds games if we got straight As. Something about being in the baseball stadium, the crack of the bat on the ball, the cheering crowds, the delicious hot dogs at the ball game. They tasted so good there. Another food memory!!
Good night------will be dreaming of those potato dumplings! lol
-
tenay that was my Mothers recipe too
my background is German us kid we had roast and dumpling every Sunday i make it for my kids and Grandkids too they love it
have a good Day everybody
-
Morning Erika------my Dads side of the family is Polish, we used to like having pierogis when we would visit our Grandmother, and really good Polish sausage. I tried to make pierogis once, mine did not stay closed when I boiled them---thank goodness they have some pretty good frozen ones in the grocery stores now---not like Grandma's though! Happy St Patricks day! I'm going to go out soon for my walk, its petty nice here this morning, but sounds like rain might be coming later.
Hope everyone will have a great day today! Don't forget to wear something green!
-
Hi, Jaytee!! When you mentioned pierogies, brought back great memories of when we lived in Pittsburgh!!! And , I have had kidney stones on and off for years. I had one surgically removed in 2000, and fortunately, the ones I have had since have passed on their own. I hope you don't have pain with yours. My son coaches the 13 and 14 year olds. TENAJ, can't wait to make the dumplings, but I know they won't taste as delicious as yours!!! Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all! Off to wedding shower, we all are supposed to wear green! It is up in San Francisco!!!! Hugs and Irish Blessings to you all!!!!!!
-
Oh kindergarden, I bet they have fabulous Polish food in Pittsburgh. Our Polish relatives were all up in Erie Pa. Each region has their own type of polish sausage, bet the Pittsburg ones were delicous too. I like to watch Diners, Drive Ins and Dives on Food network and they have gone to several Pittsburgh eateries that look so good. Wonder if DH would take a trip just to eat in a restaurant.....
Have fun in San Francisco at the shower! I'm making some shamrock cut out cookies to take down to work today and pass out to customers. Hopefully will be strong enough to resist eating too many. Going to take some of my Irish music CDs too and play some Irish music. Got to get into the mood! Ohio State plays a b ball game around 2:45 so business will probably drop to nothing by then. This is Buckeye country around here!
-
Hi and a wonderful Sunday to everyone!!! I did use the motel gym on Saturday, doing the elyptical and bike, and surprisingly, I did not eat too badly at the shower. Jaytee, would love some of your cookies after Lent! Indiana University won yesterday!!! We love the Buckeyes too!!! Have a great day everyone, off to Alcatraz!
