How many of you are called Barbara/Barb/Barbie????
When I went through school I only ever had TWO Barbaras in 13+ years of classes. How rare is that? Then I started quilting and found Barbara's all over the place!! Now, here on bco, I'm seeing more and more and more Barbaras!!!
Count me as one, born in 1958.
(Great idea apple!) I know there was a skater around that time called Barbara. My mother was called Barbara but hated it so she went by her middle name only. Thanks Mum; if you didn't like it, what made you think I'd like Barbara?

it would be interesting to me if you all would put the year you were born in your post. I say that because my husband's name is Kim. Every male Kim I met was born in the year 1950 - to 55, when the the Rudyard Kipling movie (Kim) came out. (1950).
One of my best friends is named Barbara and she was born in 55.

I am a Barbara by birth (1963) - also go by Barb and yes sometimes even Barbie still. I also did not know many Barbs while going through school, but have met quite a few since then. Actually know a Barb that shares the same unusual middle name - just spells it differently.
The skater you mentioned I believe is Barbara Ann Scott (born 1928). I am often asked if I was named after her. Alas the answer is no - It is my married name that is Scott and my middle name is definitely not Ann.

I sent you a PM Barbe
and how about Babs ... LOL

My sister is named Barbara but we call her Barb and Barbie too. She was also born in 1958. She loves her name!
-
oh and I forgot! She goes by Babs too!
-
I'm Barbara too, born in 1958, but I go by Barb. My great, great grandmother was also Barbara. I just read recently that Barbara was the number 2 most popular name for baby girls in 1940.

Thanks Apple,
I never thought about the connection between Kim and the Rudyard Kipling movie. One of my college friends is a male named Kim. I think that he was born in 1953.

Barbara, Barb, Barbie, Barbs and one Babs 1945
hi all Ginger
-
Born in 1940.......another Barbara. I have always disliked the name and people love to spell it: Barbra.
-
I too dislike my first name and my own father always misspelled it, Barbra. My Grandma was Elizabeth, born in 1900. Why not Elizabeth for me?
-
My middle name is Elizabeth. I love Izzy!! But I bet if I used my middle name I'd be Liz or Beth. Izzy is too new.
-
I was called Barbara for 6 years by the school's wrestling coach/teacher. My name is Joan. ( After he retired, someone told me his wife's name is Barbara!)
-
Jomama that is so funny!
Ginger
-
AW Joan! Talk about transference! heheheheheh
-
Okay, I'm bumping this topic as I've "met" so MANY more Barbara's!!! I can't call you out by name as that's against Forum rules, but you KNOW who you are!!!
