Seeking a 2nd opinion for my mom since she was just diagnosed with DCIS Stage II non-invasive cancer.

She is currently in the care of Dr. Fields at Facey Medical.

Her insurance is Anthem Blue Cross HMO.

I will have her seek specialist within her insurance network but thought I'd ask if anyone wanted to recommend anyone too.

Thanks!

H i - I am copying this from the DCIS section  which you can find in the forum index.  If your mom has Stage II she has another cancer in addition to the DCIS.  You should check back with Dr. Fields to confirm his diagnosis.

    Type and grade of DCIS

All DCIS is considered stage 0 breast cancer - the earliest stage possible. "Stage" describes how far the cancer has spread beyond the site of the original tumor. Even though DCIS is always considered stage 0, it can be any size and be located in any number of areas inside the breast.

Knowing the type and grade of DCIS can help you and your doctor decide on the best treatment for you.

aratanawan -- on your other thread I mentioned that I think your mom might have grade 2 DCIS, rather than stage 2.

It's all very confusing at first! We've all been there!

aratanawan - I live in the SFV, but have been treated at UCLA. I just changed to Anthem Blue Cross Jan 1 so I don't really know how well they're accepted, but I know I could stay with UCLA no problem. I've been very pleased with my treatment with UCLA docs. My Medical Oncologist is Rena Callahan, I was originally referred to Dr. Olvesky but she was on vacation when this whole thing broke back in August. My radiation oncologist was Susie McCloskey and I liked her as well, although I only met with her once and turns out that in the end I got to skip radiation. But overall, I've been happy with my UCLA docs.

And I agree that the DCIS is probably grade 2 not stage 2.
