Tykerb and painful toenails!!

Not that this is a new side effect for me, but my big toes are driving me crazy!  I have been on Tykerb for 2-1/2 years and have been dealing with constant ingrown toenails that hurt like crazy!  Constantly getting ingrown over and over again.  Swollen, infections, pain!  It never stops.

I went to a podiatrist and she clipped the corners back to the root which would make it feel better for 6 weeks or so but then I'd have to go back over and over to have it done again.  She said eventually we'd have to take the big toenails off.  Uh..... I don't think so!!  Big-time last resort!

So, my nail technician has been working with me to try and help me live with this so that I don't have to have the nails removed.  I have pedicures every 2 to 3 weeks.  She tries to lift the corners and clips just a little from the corner to try and ease the pain of the ingrown nail from growing down into my skin.  It hurts like $#%@ when she is doing it but then I get a couple of weeks relief and then it starts over.

My big toes still stay swollen and red and painful, but at least I have the nails and haven't had to have the nails removed.  I don't know how much longer I'll have to stay on Tykerb.

I know this is a common side effect but after dealing with it for so long, I am SO SICK of having my toes hurt all the time!  Nothing I do seems to make much difference.  Soaking, antibiotic cream, etc.

Do any of you other Tykerb gals suffer with this and if so, have you found anything that helps?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

    Mine are the same

I thought it was just me as none of my cancer buddies have the same problem

Like you I clip my nails but I used to always do that with toe shoes/ ballet

    Sometimes one side gets better

I also bathe in Epsom salts

    Massage also helps

Thank god for flesh colored bandages

I'm sick of people asking about my toes

    I don't look past people's faces

    Good luck
