Tonya - glad your ooph (I love that name) went well today. Only two stitches? That's awesome! Take it easy this weekend!
-
OK I dont really qualify for this thread but my son goes to Akron University and we visit frequently. He is finished in May and looking to stay because he got a job in Twinsburg, he is looking for a house in that area....any good suggestions from you ladies about good neighborhoods?
Sewingnut and Kelloggs I am a nurse and lost my job due to this dumb disease, so I am now in online school for medical billing and coding...any adice for this old lady trying to learn a new career?
I am one year out and some of the treatment is a distant memory, hang in there ladies it does go fast...ha ha easy for me to say right?
-
Carberry,
That's great that you're a nurse. With the coding experience you should have no problem finding a good job. I have a CPC certification thru AAPC. I also have a CCA thru AHIMA. My certifications are geared more toward physician billing. Make sure whatever school you are going to gives you a good course in modifier usage. They will trip you up every time. I don't know about NY medicaid, but Ohio medicaid billing is a bitch!!
-
Oh, and Carberry you are an honorary Buckeye =;0)
-
hmmm...girlpowerdebbie
i live in akron and i know there is a criteria for the mammosite...as i recall there has to be enough tissue between the chest wall and the mammosite area to actually use the mammosite. hope i said that correctly.
i just picked up my records on thursday late afternoon and wasnt feeling chipper thursday nite and just am reviewing all of them a smidge at a time, as my eyes with these darn cataracts it is a pistol to tell a c from e and and i from an l etc etc
will waddle to the store tomorrow and get a binder to record the info that different ones of you have mentioned regarding appts...drugs, etc.
-
Welcome carberry - you are an honorary buckeye in my eyes too! Congrats to your son on graduating, Akron is a terrific school. I don't know much about the Twinsburg area but I've lived in Ohio all my life.
I too am a certified coder CCS-P through the AHIMA which is physician based. I am the billing manager for a group of Pulmonary / Critical Care physicians. I've been doing this for over 25 years. Lots of changes happening in the field so make sure your school offers you extensive ICD10 training too. You should do well having a nursing background...at least you'll have the medical terminology down! Good luck to you and come back here any time!

Hi ladies I live near Medina, Ohio. About 40 miles south of Cleveland. Anyone know of a good oncologist, chemo lounge? I am thinking I am going to interview them since I am going to have to spend so much time with them;) Love this thread!!!
-
Judy, I live In Solon Ohio- I go to the Seidman Cancer Center in Beachwood. It is located in the Chagrin Highlands Medical Bldg. They have several oncologist located there. Seidman Cancer Center was formally the Ireland Cancer Center. They are part of the Case Medical University Hospital system. They are a highly rated Nationally Cancer Center. There Main Campus is downtown Cleveland. The Beachwood facility is very convenient and is not that far from Medina.
Good luck.. Eileen

I live in Orrville...ever heard of it..lol? Wrapping up my chemo treatments here soon. I have three TH to go. Started with twelve. Had a BMX with immediate DIEP flap reconstruction on Sept. 28, 2011. My surgery was done at the Cleveland Clinic main campus and I started chemo at the Wooster specialty center in November. Had 4 AC followed by Neulasta. Needless to say, November and December were very tiring months! Taxol and Herceptin started off a breeze now I am having the nail problems along with some neuropathy too. But with only three more to go...I am determined to finish! Then its off to rads. Nice to see others from the area on here!
-
Munny, thanks for info on mammosite. Based on what you said re adjacency to chest wall, I clearly was not a candidate for that because my tumor was at bottom of my left boob, right where your underwire would be. Now that I am completely healed from the lumpectomy there is NO breast tissue left between where the tumor was and my ribs. It almost feels like a cavity. I was just curious, because 5 days of that vs. 5-6 weeks of radiation was appealing.
I got a pedicure today. It was wonderful.
Heading out tonight to hear Orange OK, one of our favorite local bands, at Panini's near Belden Village. Everyone have a good weekend.
Debbie

kdking,
I love Orville, home of Smuckers jelly =:0)
-
I made it through my BMX with TE on the 1st. I look like a shark attacked me! I hope that gets better soon.
-
Hi Gracie -- My friend recommends Dr. Timothy Treece as a PS.. You can check out www.columbusplasticsurgery.com for info on his practice. Hope this helps.
-
Sarah, although my surgery was a little different from yours, trust me..it will look better. I'm five months out and still recovering. It takes time and patience! Just take it easy and it will get better! Wishing you the best!
-
kding..hi! I live in Wooster..but really Triway school district..if you are in to sports at all..you will have heard of Triway..lol...funny..we are posting on a message board and live 15 mins away from each other...pm me..maybe we can get together for lunch or something..maybe Jakes??? I had my chemo at Wooster specialty center also..do you have Dr. Masci? love that man!
Hope all of you Buckeyes (and honorary Buckeyes) had a great weekend...I watched the Buckeye vs. Michigan State game..wow...what a game..my son goes to OSU and we were there visiting him today...I vaccuumed his bedroom...he was like. mom..I vacuumed it once. (since September?)..OMG...
-
I was just at Triway Highschool last weekend! My daughter competed in a cheer leading comp. there. I am very into sports so I know all about your Triway Titans..lol. It is ironic that we live so close and are posting on these boards. I do see Dr. Masci. He is very nice and I just love all the nurses that do the chemo too. I would love to meet for lunch..Jakes sounds good!
Anyone else get a lot of snow this evening? My kids are hoping for a snow day! -
Thanks kerrie, patience is not my best attribute, for sure.
-
I'm also from Ohio but not sure if I was able to post here since I did not have to do chemo (DCIS had a uni-MX in May) but had to jump in Eileen and say how lucky you are that they are letting you do treatment outside of the new Seidman cancer center downtown. Ever since they opened the cancer center, they have dictated to me that ALL of my appointments have to be there. Even for my 5 minute follow up visits after surgery, had to drive all the way downtown to the Breen cancer center. Very annoying.
My BS finally got them to see me in Westlake office (West sider here but I was in Solon on Friday night!). Last time I talked to them they asked why I was still going downtown, and I said every time went to schedule an appointment their workers told me it had to be downtown. She told me she would take care of it, and she did! I go for a mammogram on my non-cancer side at the end of March. I am having a revision surgery coming up here on the 16th. PS promised me it would be easy, in and out. I told him I was on a surgery strike for the next year but he convinced me that this would be an easy one. He better be right!
-
Thanks for making me an honorary Buckeye! I think when I am done paying for his college education (5 years) I will own a little piece of Ohio. Will be visiting in May for his graduation.
Emaline, I am having fat grafting on the 19th as my new diep side is smaller than the right. Visually I dont really care, but I find that my shirts all shift to the left and the neckline pulls that way, very annoying pulling my shirt back into place all day. Will get the nipple done too...then I am just facing the tatoo part...cannot wait to be done.
Hope everyone is ok from the tornados that went through...scary stuff!
-
Titan - my son goes to OSU too. What year is your son and what is his major? Mine is a freshman, school of music, jazz percussion.
LAST DAY OF RADIATION TOMORROW, WOOT!
I stopped at my MO's office today to pick up a prescription so I went back to the treatment room and said hi to all the nurses. They are all so nice. The receptionist still has the baby Christmas tree I took her over the holidays on the front counter - only now it is dressed for St. Patty's day! I thought that was hilarious. They liked my new wig.
The snow sure is pretty. Everybody have a good week!
Debbie
-
Carrie that is it exactly! That is why I am having the revision. They are swapping out the implant that I have and am going to get a higher profile one. Most people can't tell the difference, but it is the shirt pulling that annoys me. I keep going back and forth on the nipple part. I know I want it done but not sure how I want to go about it. I really like what I've seen done with the 3D tattooing would need to find a new PS, as my PS tattoo artist doesn't do it.
The snow was very pretty this morning. I didn't want to get out of bed, wanted to stay in bed and watch it fall instead. Of course tomorrow it is all supposed to melt.
-
GPDebbie..my son is a junior..he transferred from Ohio Northern (way too expensive) and he is majoring in Finance...
Emaline..I just kinda jumped in here when it said "Ohio"...my chemo was over almost 2 1/2 years ago but joined this thread anyway... loved the idea of an Ohio thread...
For those of you going through chemo now..you WILL survive it...it's certainly not easy but it can be done...
-
Amen to that Titan! Tomorrow is #10 Taxol Herceptin for me! The first day of spring is my last chemo day..aside from the Herceptin every three weeks. It will be a beautiful day...even if it snows! (we are in Ohio)
-
Titan,
Know what you mean about Ohio Northern $$$$. DH graduated from there.
-
Good morning Ohio ladies! It's supposed to be 50 by this afternoon and all this beautiful snow we got will be gone once again. I had a terrible weekend, #5 TCH on Thursday kicked my ass! I never expected chmo drugs to cause actual pain but I was down Sunday and yesterday with the worst leg, hip and lower back pain. I went back to work today....can't stand laying around any more. I hope everyone has a lovely day!
Debbie - congrats on your last rads today! WOOT WOOT!!!
ihatemyboobs - I thought I looked like a shark attacked me after my second lumpectomy. Hope you are feeling better.......good healing vibes being sent your way!
-
Oh Kelly, I am so sorry to hear that # 5 was so hard on you. I have #2 tomorrow and I am once again terrified. #1 was not too bad,but I see from others that each treatment gets worse. If I have a bad time I will quit chemo and continue on with herceptin only. My colonoscopy found a small ulcer in my colon, but thank god no cancer. I am waiting for the biospy report to see how they will treat this colon ulcer. My GI doc said that often times they heal themself,so I can hope only that it does.
Hope you feel better. Take care Eileen
-
Thanks Eileen. It has gotten harder but I only have one more to go! Not everyone reacts the same so don't assume you will feel worse each time. You did so well with the first one, hopefully your body will cooperate and keep that up! Don't be terrified. I hope you get some good news on the ulcer and that yours will heal itself! Glad to hear from you and that you are doing ok!
-
Kellogs,
Thanks for welcoming me. That's wonderful that you're almost done with Chemo! The worst is over and soon you'll have hair again. Woohoo. Mine came back super curly....it looked crazy.
-
welll i am getting ready to go to my chemo class that is mandatory at akron general hospital...i cant remember if i posted that i will have 4 treatments of A/C 3 weeks apart...guess i will learn something in these classes preparing me for all this
-
Corrie - mine was crazy curly before I lost it...I dread what it will come back as. My fuzz has grown a little and it is grey! Guess I'll be wearing wigs until it's long enough to color!
munnybunni - Good luck at chemo class today! The anticipation and fear of the first treatment is way worse than the treatment itself. Try to take in all the info you can and relax!
