Mom is getting a port tomorrow morning...advice?

Options

We found out a few weeks ago that mom has breast cancer. Before she has surgery to remove the tumor she is going to have chemo to shrink it. We are going to the hospital at 6am so she can get the port for chemo. She starts the chemo 02/01. Does anyone have any advice for after care? I'm sure the doctor will give instructions but I thought it would help to get input from a caregiver or patient perspective. The port will be on her left side.

My brain is fried from taking in everything and trying to keep appointments, info, etc straight. I don't want to miss anything. Will I need to get boxes of gauze, ointment, etc?

Thank you for any advice/tips!
