Could Lung disease be Mets?
Well my knee surgery went well, still wrapped in dressing that comes off tomorrow. Still recovery pain but I see a light at the end of the tunnel. PT doc says I will probabley want to go for the knee replacement and i'll know when I am ready. Just feel so done with surgery right now,. I was reading my pre-admission report on chest x ray. Scare me. There is Hyperinflation and chronic interstitial lung disease noted.no acute pulmonary or congestive failiure. So WTF!! does this mean lung mets is sprouting??

Absolutely, positively not!!! And I wouldn't put too much faith in that x-ray! The DH was told his lungs were hyperinflated. Ran off to a pulmonologist. Did his own tests and sent him on his way! Chemo can cause ILD... Wouldn't worry unless you are symptomatic. I had lung surgery and believe me... When your lungs aren't working right, you know it! Hope you are feeling better soon!

glad that your knee surgery went well...don't know anything about the lung stuff, but I tend to agree with voracious reader....sending hugs your way!!
-
That sounds like it could be a reaction from chemo more then mets. Be sure to ask about it.
-
Glad you're home. I hope the lung thing is nothing important.

Barb,
Glad to hear the surgery is over, but STOP TRYING TO INTERPRET SCANS yourself! It's like going to "Dr. Google". We lay people don't know a damn thing about the language they are using, so unless your doc seems concerned, you shouldn't either. And I highly doubt they would have proceeded on a surgery if there were any concerns of mets without checking in to it.
Take care,
Sharon

voraciousreader Thanks so much for your words. They do make me feel so much better. It's funny but I had noticed I've been coughing occasionally at night, and thought I might be coming down with allergies. Then when I read the words on the x ray, I thought, oh no, it mets!.
ma111 - Yes, I did read somewhere that chronic interstitial lung disease is often a result of chemo and radiation therapy. I'm going to discuss this x ray result with my onc.
Sharon - I know you are right, but I guess we are all a little prone to consulting Dr. Google, regarding our never ending sensitivity regarding fear of progression with this horrible diagnosis. I know I'm going to ask my onc exactly what he thinks this chronic interstitial lung disease actually means.

Barb:
Glad to hear the surgery is OVER! Sorry to hear about that stress causing X-ray. Are you a smoker? I hope not but that would explain that X-ray? Last time I went to the Oncologist (about a week ago), I asked if having chemo could sort of "ruin" our immune system. She said some chemo's can but not the kind I had (TCH). It seems I get sick a lot more now, lots of coughs that come and go. I have had a clear scan of the lungs. So....I'm starting to think that these doctors don't actually know what they're talking about. I am NOT the same healthy person I was before chemo. It is frustrating isn't it....

I am so not a smoker. I used to smoke. Started when I was 13 and had my last cigarette on my wedding day in 1972. I've never had anything like this show up on previous exrays over the years. I also wander if maybe I have a genetic tendancy toward this since my mom passed away in 1993 from Lung Cancer. She also had Emphyema for years before her death. Her father also passed away from Emphysema when I was only a year old. Apparently he aquired it when he was in the war as a result of "mustard gas". As far as I know, I have never been exposed to anything that would affect my lungs other than second hand smoke. I grew up with the adults in my world smoking. But I can honestly say that although I've never smoked since I was 23 I too am not the same healthy person I was before chemo. I am now 62 and I guess I'm at the age where everything starts showing up anyway.
And yes it is so frustrating because I'm so used to being fit and healthy!

Did you say how your knee is doing?

Elizabeth 1959 - Thank you for asking, yes I did mention in my post topic, surgery was done on Thursday, back in PT on Friday and again today. My PT says my strength and range of motion is really good considering I just had the surgery. I do see a light at the end of a tunnel and hopefully I'll be walking around the block and the boardwalk by the end fo next week. My frustration right now is the continuing pain resulting from the surgical procedure. Though its lasted for months I can feel the difference since the surgery. Not as much swelling and inflamation. So hopefully pain will start to diminish. Seems that ever since MX and treatment there's been nothing but pain of some kind or another to deal with daily. Even though i have a high tolerance for it i do feel it's getting wearisome after awhile. Thank heaven for Ambien
