DES (diethylstilbestrol) Lawsuit Won in Boston Today!
Litigation between drug makers Eli Lilly, Squibb and 14 others, and 53 DES Daughters was settled in favor of the DES Daughters today in Boston, MA by Judge Marianne Bowler. I am one of the 53 daughters. The drug companies were ordered to begin mediation immediately. The connection between cancer of the reproductive tract and DES in utero exposure was made years ago - this lawsuit concerned women over 40 who have high risk of breast cancer due to their exposure in utero of the drug. The 53 DES Daughters have breast cancer as a result of the drug and are seeking compensation.
This decision affects MILLIONS of women and men across the country. The drug was widely prescribed under many different names from the 1930's to the 1970's. It was banned from animal use by the FDA in 1954, however, the drug companies continued to ok it's use for humans.
Women who think they may have been exposed to DES should absolutely avoid HRT use and this fact should be loud and clear!!

tuckertwo- I have been trying to do some research as to what type of DES my mother took. Unfortunately, I keep hitting a wall when it comes to finding her medical records. I have been told by the hospital where she delivered, records are destroyed after 10 years. My mother told me she took the medication during her first 4 pregnancies. She basically took this med for 4 years straight, the four of us are all a year apart. She said her dr told her to take everyday along with her vitamins. Her dr is retired. She was diagnosed with BC 13 years ago, and now I too have bc. Any idea how I may find her medical records from 45 years ago?

Hi suebak,
Most DES Daughters in their 50's and 60's don't have their mom's medical records. That doesnt mean you don't have a case. Please give Aaron Levine's office a call (in post, above) I think they can help you. In many cases, DES Daughters who have been exposed to the drug will have a certain pattern seen during Pap tests. DES Daughters also need special examinations. You can find this info out by contacting DES Action.org (or google them) and/or calling Levine's office. They are super nice, helpful people.
Good luck! and keep me posted!

Hi, I just read your article about the DES exposure and Breast Cancer. My mother took DES for 6 months and I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer August 28, 2013. I had to have a double masectomy , after 5 months of chemotherapy at DANA Farber Facility. I had ACT and Neulasta. I tried the phone number listed to call, but it's no longer active. Please send a private message to me if you have it.
