Radiation therapy for palliative pain relief

Options

As my pain is worsening almost daily the oncologist is referring me to the Radiation therapy for spot welding she calls it to see if it will help ease the pain issues especially on my left lung (which has a pleural effusion involved), as the last tests show that my left lung since the last tests is getting closer to being overrun by breast cancer (plus the concern there may be asbestos in the pleural effusion but I am to unstable medically to put under to check.). My worry is if the Radiation therapy is as strong a dose as when I had the original breast cancer it could knock me around as badly if not worse then it did originally or does it come in a palliative /lighter dose also and should not knock me around as much? Also is it worth doing ? Or should I allow them to up my pain relief? I just don't want to lose what quality of life I have left, I would really appreciate any advice as the thought of it is a worry! has anyone else had palliative rads and is it worth having to ease the pain and slow the tumours down. Please help me on this for I am at a loss for it is this or up the pain killers and I fear that if they get me on a too high dose I might not be able to think straight?
