Ugh!! Another Surgery
I've been going for physical therapy for a couple of months for the knee issues. Still in pain and having problems with walking .
I saw my Ortho Doc yesterday and he has recommended Arthoscopic surgery. I'm really nervous about more pain. I told him I just want to get this overwith quickly because I need to get back on my AI's which I''ve avoided taking since June. But I don't want to risk recurrence. He's going to try to schedule me within the next week or so. I just want to get back to my brisk walks again.

Barb, I'm so sorry you have to have surgery. I was hoping the PT would help resolve things for you. That is great he is trying to work you in asap and get you back on your AI. I hope the surgery gets you back out there and the recovery is quick. My thoughts and prayers will be with you.

Thanks, girls, for the support. Today is not so good day. I guess it's the weather, and the blahs. Surgery is next Thursday, then Friday they want to start PT again. Tomorrow I have to go for pre admission testing. Ugh, it just seems like since the whole BC experience, my life is now so filled up with sitting in docs waiting rooms and constant tests, scans and all that. Just so sick of doing this.

Hi Barb - hope things go well for you! I had arthroscopic surgery on both knees (tore meniscus in right knee and then a year later left knee) and was able to walk again within a week and was back to running pretty quickly too.
Had my right knee done right before I was diagnosed in 2008 and my left knee in 2009. I have since run 3 marathons (and countless other miles).
By the way - I am running the NJ MArathon in May, maybe I will see you?

I read your posts earlier about your knee. I didn't chime in, but I was also having right knee pain at the same time you were. I injured imy knee hiking. I waited about 8 weeks and then went ahead and had the arthroscopic surgery. It was depressing to be feeling better from cancer, but then being significantly disabled from my knee. i agree it almost felt like breast cancer all over again.
I had a medial meniscus tear and a piece of torn cartilage. The knee didn't seem a whole lot better right after the surgery which was quite discouraging. I went back to work one week after surgery. It has now been 6 weeks since surgery. Lo and behold, my knee is significantly better. Definitely worth doing. Pain from surgery was unpleasant but no more painful than the injury itself. I hope everything goes well for you. Thinking of you

Mary, good words of encouragement, thanks. I'm thinking that I just want to get back to doing what I've always done. My orhtho doc told me "running will not be your friend", but I'm hopeful at least. I remember when I had a brain hemorrhorage in 2002, my nuero doc told me I wouldn't be able to ride again at least for a year or two. I was back on my horse within 4 months after coming out of a coma. It was such a strong love of riding and show jumping my horse that gave me the strong will to continue back into that activity. I had stopped riding just before BC diagnosis but have always been active running and fast walking. That would be nice to see you at the NJ Marathon. It's 10 minutes from where I live.
Elizabeth I hope I'll get a good result from the surgery. This last year has been just pushing thru the pain, and hopefully the PT will get me back quickly.
Jenny, I too had hoped the PT would have resolved it. There has been a huge improvement from the time I began, but still not enough to live without limping

Barb, I have no experience with this surgery and I know you don't want another one. But from what everyone else has said it seems to be the thing to do, it sounds like it's what you need since PT didn't do it. I'll be thinking & praying for you next week, let us know when you can.
