Cancer Treatment Centers of America -- feedback anyone?

Options

I'm looking for a second opinion for my other.  She has stage IV triple negative breast cancer and we have seen no results from 4 different chemo drugs.  I kept seeing the commercials on TV about the CTCA and decided to call.  We will be flying to Chicago in a couple of weeks.  Does anyone have any feedback on these people?  I have read mixed reviews everywhere... from it was so great, to it's a gigantic scam.  Has anyone had any sort of dealings with them?

I don't have any experience with Cancer Centers of america.  It does always bother me when a hospital is trying to drum up business with advertising.  That said, be wise.  A second opinion is always a plus.  I would be very careful of their reported results.  Look at some of the reviews from various consumer reports and you will rarely find CTc of A at the top.  I am trying to find my footing with a stage IV right now and no matter who we deal with the outcome is always the same, find something that is working and make the most out of today.  She is terminal, you aren't going to know whether it is two weeks, two months, two years, or two decades.  Take the good days and the bad days as noone knows the outcome.  Stay close to the BCO as these girls know more than most ONC. and will lead you on your way.

    Pat,

That was one of my main concerns when trying this center, all the advertising.  We have made the appointment and will be heading to Chicago in a couple of weeks.  I figure worse case scenario is that we possibly have some other options to ask of her local doctor.  Anything that gives us a little more hope right now is a plus.  I won't accept a time frame from anyone.

These boards have been my saving grace.  I hope the best for you!

    Hugs back at ya!

I've heard great things about the Block Center for Integrative Cancer Care in Chicago. Since you're headed there yiu may want to check them out. I don't know anything about CTCA.

    Michelle,

I can't speak for Chicago, but I went to CTCA in Tulsa. Absolutely LOVED them. One of the things that I really embraced there, were the people, the staff. Just so caring. I would have continued to go there for all of my follow ups, but we own our own business, and it's too hard for me to be gone for 3 days, just to have blood work and maybe scans. I don't believe they are miracle workers, there is no such thing. It's just the way they do things. And, they do it all for you, all you have to do it show up. I could go on and on about them, but since you are going, I'm sure you will be able to decide after you have been there. Again, I went to Tulsa, not Chicago.

Good luck, and go with what feels right in your heart.
