cost of bilateral mri to rule out IBC

Options

My insurance company is not going to allow an mri (which I asked BS for) to rule out ibc.... I am thinking of finding a way to pay cash.... Does anyone know how much a breast mri costs?

I think about $5000. Can you (or someone from your BS's office) ask the MRI dept? If you've been Dx'd with BC I'm surprised it's not covered. I thought that was standard treatment (any chance your BS can ask again?)

I was told 3900 by the hospital. When the bill came it was 3200. They gave me a discount. I have been told that the hospital will sometimes bill an uninsured patient for the same amount they would bill an insurance company or Medicare. You should ask

$3500, I just had it done. If you have had cancer in the past, this should be automatic and I would argue it with your health insurance company. If you have not had cancer, then it might be difficult to get this test done. But don't give up if you believe it is what you need.

My one thought of having gone through this, is the MRI is sometimes not as accurate as we hope it to be, mine had to be done twice, (I pay 20% each time, so it was alot of money for me) and then I needed a biopsy anyway. Grrrrrrr. So I am not sure anything but a biopsy can 100% rule in or out anything...

But this is just my own experience.

Mine was 6K.   But I live in an expensive city, probably cheaper in other cities.

Mine was $4500 but with my insurance I only had to pay $300. I can't believe your ins. is denying it. I was just diagnosed when my bs ordered the MRI. There wasn't any question about payment. Most hospitals have programs to help with payment. My breast center even has programs for financial issues. They called me last week to make sure I was doing ok. She mentioned different grants, etc even through Susan G Komen. Is there something like that in your area? I'd definitely make a stink with ins. Good luck to you.

Is there some reason your oncologist or breast surgeon didn't request the MRI? You noted that you were the one asking for the test.
