Need a Pick Me Up

I spent the weekend terrified over my neck and back pain. See onc tomorrow. Hope it's only tension.
I am calling out to all bc ladies who are long term survivors. I know there is another post but I wanted to start a new one. I don't know why, just because I feel like crap today. I don't want to die. I want to live a long life. Can anyone share stories of people they know that are around and living life please?
-
ckgrayoh, just want to wish you good luck for tomorrow. I am having tests tomorrow as well, no symptoms, just regular one, but have been so anxious, like never, so I know exactly how you feeling !!!! Hope the neck and back pain turns up nothing serious. Good luck. Karina

Hi, Good luck at your app. tomorrow. My MIL is a 20 year survivor of BC. She is doing very well. She just had her 86th birthday. She still plays golf and loving life. SharonH

Thank you ladies!! Good luck Karina...
Thanks Sharon, that is good to hear about your MIL. I hope there are some people who pop in here with survivors of multiple nodes, which is me. I just got done cleaning out my closet in anticipation of larger size foobs. I just hope they are there when I wake up and this isn't like my first surgery.

CK - My mom is a 17 year survivor - A couple of us just went through similar scans etc. and ended up with treatable issues. Mine are bad discs (one bulged, one ruptured). Try not to think the worst - that being said I know I was very nervous - keep us posted - Ellie

sent you a PM

My grandmother is 92 and is a 30+ year cancer survivor (2 separate diagnoses, 2 separate mastectomies). She is doing well!

Sorry you're feeling stressed about your pain. There are so many different benign reasons for neck and back pain. I discovered that stressing about bc makes my ribs hurt, but then again I have the unwelcome ability to create any symptom with my mind.
If you're feeling worried, be sure and read the Stage III Five Years Out tacked to the top of this board. There are loads of stories from survivors with multiple nodes, and whenever I need reassurance that is possible to survive, I read the wonderful posts from women with similar dx

(((Cheryl))),
Unfortunately as you know by my threads in the past month or so I was in the exact spot you are. I truly had gotten so worried and stressed about it and didn't realize how much tension I was holding in. Trying NOT to worry AND pretend like everything was hunky dorey so I didn't ruin the kids Christmas break. BUT, once I got a clean scan by the next day I felt SO much tension release and be gone. It was physically noticable. I still have back pain, but the burning stabbing stuff is almost gone! I worked out at the gym and took some yoga classes last week and I really believe it's helped.
Although you may still have a bit of a wait ahead of you, and yes, some possible scans, once you get the all clear that big fat f&#ing elephant will lift right off of you! Oh,and if you need to get some px from the doc for the anxiety and pain if needed. It did help me not completely unravel.
Keep us posted!
Love,
Sharon

Hi all! Went to onc today, blood work was all perfect! Yea!! Hope to still get a scan out of him when I hit my year mark. Have muscle relaxers, hoping they work. Feel better today, sigh....thanks to you all. I love this site!!
-
Just throwing out my two cents worth...
I am so glad things went well for you today. I just wanted to comment that my mother, who is 72, is a 27-year breast cancer survivor (one side only, stage 2, all lymph nodes removed, chemo & radiation). It amazes me how she went through it all back then - people didn't talk about it like they do now, and there were definitely no support groups like this one!!!
Best wishes to you and all those on this site!
-
Hi,, So glad that things went well today. SharonH
-
Glad you are feeling better. How about a massage and glass of wine?
-
My sister in law is 71 years old. She is a 31 year survivor and I am an 8 year survivor.
-
A massage would be excellent!! Think I will try to get one scheduled. Have a job interview today and feeling pretty good about! I layed down all day yesterday and relaxed, my back is soo much better! Also knowing that there is nothing going on helped!! Hope you all have a lovely day!!
-
Glad you're feeling better and that your visit to the onc went well. I understand the fear. I had a headache last week ... all week, nothing seemed to make it go away. I finally took a muscle relaxer I had left over and it subsided the next day. I'm sure it was nothing but it does freak you out!
Hang in there!

Yay Cheryl. Now on to getting your horse. Hoping the interview goes well.
As for long term survivors, a neighbor of ours growing up had breast cancer 30+ years ago. My cousin stopped by for something a couple of weeks ago. The lady apologized for the house being untidy as she was in the middle of frying up six dozen doughnuts for the church.
She is 90.
-
Hi Claire. Wow good for her!! 90, I wouldn't even know how to begin to make donouts!! Good for her. If women dx over 20 or 30 years ago are surviving, we should be able to!! Back then there was probably no chemo or Tamoxofin. I can't imagine! Not sure about the horse, may stop looking and focus on my hair and my new chest. Plus I bought a pool so am planning on having lots of pool parties!! Maybe a horse in the fall. Right now I am looking forward to going out of town for my bday and getting my reconstruction done.
BTW - interview went well...thanks!!

Julia Child is another lady who survived for decades. Not on green sludge either. Good French food and lots of wine. I still use some of her recipes.
And of course, Betty Ford who made it OK to discuss Breast Cancer.
I'll raise my glass to Julia. I learned so much from her programs which really changed the way we thought about food in this country.
-
Julia Child? Did not know that. And she ate dairy (my research quest)
Good to hear of all these women, I am seeking out the longterm survivors too, for hope and their stories.
