ER+ and PR+ Ranges

Hi,

Does anyone know what the range is for testing ER or PR positive?  I see other people posting about being "strongly" ER+ with a percentage but all I see on my report (oncotype) is a number.  The reason I ask is when this journey started, the pathology showed PR- but the oncotype report now says PR+ and I'm wondering if I am on the cusp. Or maybe it can change?

Thanks!

    My ER+ was 90% and PR+ 10%.

I found out this just last year.

Hi Sheila-  Did you have a number that corresponded to the 90%?  Like my number says 7.2 or something close to that.  Or were you just given a percentage?

    Thanks!

    Good luck to you Myopiawmn.

My ER was 75% and PR was 14%, no corresponding numbers.

Check your actual pathology report, it may have the percentages on it.  Also initial biopsy samples may show different percentages than the post-op tumor pathology.  Different locations, or collections of cells, may have also have different percentages.  The percentage is based on a group of 100 cells on the slide and how many of them show the receptors.  I am 96% ER+, so 96 of the 100 cells showed estrogen receptors.  If the 100 cells came from another spot on the mass there may have been more, or less, that showed positive receptors.

Thanks. I found my er percentage on the original pathology. It was 80% which I'm thing is good because this is the time we want a high score, right?

Just looked through my info. My original path showed 88% E and 81% P. My Oncotype test shows an E score of 10.9 (range shown was 3.7-12.5) and a P score of 10+ (range 3.2-10.0). So, oddly, my P score was much more positive on the Oncotype than the original path, if I am interpreting this correctly. Oncotype was 8, so no chemo for me.

    Hi,

I don't know if pathology reports vary across the US but mine said that I was something like 70% ER+ and 40% PR+  (Sorry I don't have it in front of me.)  I was also strongly HER2+.  Because of timing of things, I had an Oncotype DX test done despite the feeling I was HER2+.  My MO usually doesn't bother with Oncotype for HER2+ because will need chemo anyway for Herceptin.  Anyway, I say all that because my Onctoype Score was 75.  I expected 30-50, not that.  My MO showed me that for the purposes of the Oncotype DX, my ER+ PR+ actually fell into the negative range.  How could that be with the 70% figure?  That seemed like an enormous change.  My MO explained to me that although 70% of my cells were ER+  they were so only at a +1 intensity.  So I thought I was strongly ER+ because of the percentage but it turned out I am only weakly ER+/PR+ because the intensity was so low.  The intensity was shown on my pathology report, I just didn't know what it meant at the time.
